What's new

The Coffee House

On this fateful day I was teaching an Object Oriented Analysis and Design class at a hotel near DFW airport. One of the students asked to turn on the TV, because something was going on. The rest was history. Let's never forget where hate takes the world, and the suffering and loss of life it causes. NEVER. FORGET.
I don't remember anything before turning on the TV.

I was in an office building in downtown Boston. They sent us home after the first tower collapsed. I remember how scared everyone was. There weren’t a lot of TVs in the building and the internet news wasn’t even close to what it is today. No one really knew what was happening. I took a taxi because I didn’t want to get stuck on the subway. It really wasn’t until I got home and turned on the tv that I knew the enormity of what had happened.

And now we learn that the Pentagon is proposing a plea deal that would allow the 4 scumbag masterminds to serve life in prison rather than face execution.

An anniversary of sorts for us - yesterday we marked the official one-year day we moved - at last - into our new (old!) bungalow. Moving is never fun, but this one seemed to take forever because of the deal we gave the sellers. Namely, we closed in May and let them stay through Labor Day while they waited on their own new house to be ready.

It wouldn't have been too bad except for being crunched into my mom's condo with all our furniture, appliances, etc being in storage for months, which was getting expensive when they raised rates about halfway through.

Needless to say, it was a huge relief to get here - can't believe it's been a year! Since we regard this as our retirement home, it carries a special nuance. ❤️

We were just talking the other day, time does fly. We finished construction and moved in to our retirement home 16 years ago. Doesn't seem possible that it's been that long.

Youngest daughter and newborn popped into town for a quick visit. Photo time for the little one.

Let's see those pictures!!!!

Temperatures plummeted 30 degrees... do y'all know how hard it is to type with three layers of mittens on?

Okay, now you're just showing off with your nice cool weather!

It seemed cool "here" this past summer. The smoke and cloudy weather probably hid the sun more than usual.

I didn't have to bundle up like Jeff, but this morning when Phoebe & I took our morning walk the temperature was in the low 60s. The perfect temperature for me.

Water freezes in Texas at 70F...

Meanwhile, water boils and evaporates in New York at the same temps 😅

I don't even try to find my mittens until it's in the 20s or 30s.

Hosers. Had unexpected guests nosing around the bird feeder a short while ago.

I only got a couple of bad cell phone shots of one of them:

The other one stayed just out of light - and was really beautiful, actually, with a thick white stripe.

Both cats were inside and stayed inside. I didn't know that skunks are nocturnal. Haven't seen them at all since we've been here. They rooted around the feeder and then continued on their way.
