The Coffee House

Crème brûlée and cran’ sauce are chillin’ in the fridge. MLW is putting a the bird injection juice together, and the jamba’ (less the rice) is simmering. Well on the way to the feast.

Don't know how you endure such hardship...

Happy Thanksgiving to our USA hosers! Skipping the football game today as it’s not a home game for the local HS team. Getting to/from the next town over is not difficult but it’s just not feasible when I’m hosting.

I’m just about to rearrange some furniture so I can set up the tables and then watch the parade. I have two desserts to finish making this morning. Boston Cream cake needs to be assembled and frosted, then I can get the cookie bars into the oven. The traditional Thanksgiving pies are being brought by our guests.

Today’s Thanksgiving special cocktail will be Prickly Pear martinis.

For those not in the US - have fun at work today. 🤣🤣🤣
Give an ex-pat Amurican a break. Waaay back last century, my folks got prickly pear syrup in Phoenix from a candy company that bottled it for local hi-brow bars and discerning desert-dwelling booze hounds.

My COLD cold room just got stocked with a load of holiday brewskis delivered(FREE!)by "The Beer Store." Our government+brewery-run suds seller in the People's Republic of Ontario comes through again.

Our October Thanksgiving puts some welcome daylight between endless leftover turkey experiments and Christmas turkey last rites.

Best wishes to all!

My DIL despite her early less than culinary skills, has evolved through the years to become one fine cook. She didn't disappoint this year with the Thanksgiving feast. I really tried to watch my portion sizes, but I still blew the diet yesterday. It probably didn't help but on the way home last night we stopped at a McDonald's and had a cheeseburger for supper. 😁 I had some room though as I've already reached my 3 month goal that the doctor ordered. Time to get back on track toward the 6 month goal. I can drop 10lbs fairly easy, it's dropping the next 25 that will be difficult.

In other news, it seems that I started coming down with a cold last night. I plan on staying in today, and watching it. So far I think it's just a cold, but I might go ahead a do a rapid test for COVID later today to be sure. We tried to avoid the crowds last week in Gatlinburg but it isn't always possible. I've had all the boosters for COVID so I hope I'm safe. When we got our Flu shots a few weeks ago, they asked us about RSV. We elected not to, but now I'm thinking we might go back as it's surpassing COVID in the number of cases in the south. There saying it's really hard on babies and seniors.

Just back from a post turkey-day hike with the dog. Struggled on the way back which was uphill a bit more than I was prepared for. I’m a little annoyed that I forgot to wear my Apple Watch so I didn’t even get credit for the steps 🤣

First time in years for me no Black Friday shopping and not putting up our decorations over the long weekend. Heading to TX next week so I think I’m going to wait until we get back before dragging all that out of the attic. May skip the Christmas tree this year and just decorate the mantle and my fiddle leaf fig tree.

Nice sunny day today. Had to choose between going out with the camera, or yard work. Really needed to get the yard work done. I have a couple youpon hollies out front. One is about 8'x4', and the other is 7'x4'. On the 8' one, I cut all the branches from the half way point down to the ground, so now it looks more like a small tree. Will do the other at some time, but I'm pooped. Speaking of pooped, I ordered a puzzle with 101 pooches pooping in a meadow for my DSU. Probably won't get done, but at least it will provide a brief laugh. Stuffed myself yesterday, watched the Packers pummel the Lions, and watched half of the Cowboy game. I guess they really whomped on the Redskins Commanders.

We did a small amount of shopping online - didn't leave the house. I had planned on a walk but was taken aback by the unexpected high winds - on a cold day I don't want wind, too.

They played badly (the Lions)! But they usually get beaten on Thanksgiving, so it's in line with tradition.

Burlap-wrapped a struggling Japanese maple this aft. Purpose isn't so much insulation as immobilizing slender cold-stiffened limbs from wind breakage.Breezy, high 20sF cut the fun factor. Mulched our old rescue roses for their winter slumber. Temps crashed in S. Ontario early this week. Fingers crossed Amazon and the mails get loot from all over here soon. Slapping a set of new Bridgestone "all-weather" tires on soon. Billed as a hybrid all-season/winter tire. Find the cost, storage and season change of winter tires a PITA. Salt, snowblowers and shovels at the ready!

I saw that puzzle lol. I was looking for something for my mom. She loves puzzles. I ended up getting her an advent calendar puzzle. Every day you open a box with 42 pieces that form a part of the puzzle and on the 24th day you complete the whole thing.

Good mornin, hosers.

MW ordered a new laptop, monitor and wireless keyboard for me, yesterday. I was leaning toward a desktop but I wasn't able to find one at the same price.

We went to a local pop-up market last night at one of the farms in SoMD. Not very big but a nice night out. MLW is doing 24 OT at the Watch Office tonight & tomorrow so we're just hanging around the house today. MLSIL and I are panning to go to the "Lights on the Bay" at Sandy Point State Park, this evening. The entrance fee goes to support the local SPCA.
