Thread moved from beginner forum

I would love to have the ability to move threads. It just isn't done enough.

This one will probably move to.

Just look at it like this. You have very moving threads.

Yeh they moved nudes forever :x

KMH, cause if I post it on Professional fora, people will say.... why are these in the professional not beginner? :D

But yeah, that would be nice if we can move it our self.

I posted this on the original forum where they moved the thread - so i'm sure they'll dump it or move it...

None of this makes sense. If you post here, who do you want critiquing your photos? OTHER BEGINNERS? Like the blind leading the blind. It would be impossible to any credible critiquing if only newbies hit this thread. I'm glad there are several 'non-beginners' on here (the beginner's forum).

People like eros, schwetty, bitterjeweler and so many others have given me great advice that I would never have got from another newbie.

My entire lighting rig was purchased on the advice of Derrell - I'm guessing he's not really a beginner, but I'm thankful he comes on here and offers his opinions and advice.

If it weren't for those you mentioned, most of these questions, posts, etc on here would go unanswered, or simply have the generic "great shot" type of responses.

I never go off the beginner link here because I am comfortable putting anything up here and know it's likely going to get honest criticism whether I like it or not - isn't that the point?

Why would I want to hear from someone on here like my mother who tells me "oh that's a great photo!" She doesn't know any better and most newbies don't either. Things like horizon lines, oof, dof, etc go right by newbies until they see others on here making those critiques. THAT'S HOW YOU LEARN!

Photography Beginners' Forum & Photo Gallery (493 Viewing)
Brand new to photography, or brushing up on some of the basics? Don’t be shy! Talk to other beginners and ask all your basic photographic questions here. Show us some of the photos you have taken so far and get some review - so you can learn where there is room for improvement!

It doesn't limit who replies. But, the idea is - beginners start the threads - not more advanced shooters.

Some start threads here because the Begineers forum has the most eyes - (493 Viewing) - rather than posting in a more appropriate forum section that gets visited by fewer people.

Let's start here: Define, concretely, a beginner. Define, clearly, the benchmark that you are no longer allowed to post here.

I just bought another speedlight. I am essentially begining to learn how to use multiple lights. Beginner?

Ok bitter and kmh, you guys tell me whether im a beginner or not.

EDIT: And gsgary :). Seriously.. i just want to avoid the drama.. thats why i post in the beginner forum.

There is no 'not allowed'. Each TPF member decides where it is appropriate for them to start threads. Then TPF management desides if it needs to be moved or not.

I've started a couple of threads in the Beginners forum section. This is just one of them.

There are other forum sections where threads routinely get moved.

I say you are, but so am I.

Others say I am not. Others will say you are not.
What is the defining moment that you are not a beginner?
Recieving money for your work? *pfft*

If you have over 4,000 posts! :lmao:

Seriously, what a boring section if it was nothing but 'cc this please'

I read through the link, I can see the persons point of view, it has some merit to the extent that they may be looking for more advice than they are receiving.

i think we need to get rid the "professional gallery". Then everyone should start to post on the galleries section (black and white, lanscape, photojournalistic, just for fun etc.)

The Beginners Forum is the dumping ground of TPF. There are p-l-e-n-t-y of posters there that are more advanced shooters, perhaps even just an advanced beginner, that stay in the swirl. These advanced beginners (and beyond) can certainly add value for the true beginners, but continually posting photos there for C&C keeps them plateaued IMO.

In the same breath, there are also plenty of shooters that have a decent amount of time behind the viewfinder but still don't get it. They need guidance that others can assist them with and really do need the Beginners Forum.

In the end, each individual has to decide where they are comfortable to post on this or any other photo forum. Each person grows at their own pace. Photographically speaking, I will never be comfortable.
