Thread moved from beginner forum

If a bunch of you only look at "Active Topics", why do you care what section they are posted in.......just sayin

I answered this further up but mainly because of the speed of the single section. A thread can quickly end up on page 3 in under a day currently without any fault of the OP in constructing the thread. This creates some tension with "popular" peoples threads, but also means that a lot of people don't get the views exposure that they would otherwise get if things were more spread out over the forum as a whole.
Also whilst I view things through active topics this is not how everyone views the site and I would think that the majority section surf.

As a final point it also helps with forum searches and info finding

OK everyone.. All of you "active members" say I YOUR NAME, beginning today on the 17th day of January of two thousand eleven, will start posting in the appropriate fora.

As an example here is a thread which has been on page 2 twice today already:

http://www.thephotoforum.com/forum/...902-considering-upgrading-my-camera-body.html

its not a "popular" question nor one that many newer photographers can often easily answer so it gets little attention - slips to page 2 and thereafter is lost unless the OP continually bumps the thread up (which just feels bad after a while ;))

Now if it were posted in the equipment section it would not have moved down that far at all and thus increasing the chances of being answered.

I do it pretty much the same as everyone else. CP then Active then New since Active can move so fast during a day and I do have to actually work sometimes.

What location to start a thread in is when I go to the Table of Contents. Might be an interesting thread starter to see what most users here do if you want to get one going.

overread made a solid point. Plus the search function here sucks (with the 30 sec wait period). Sometimes I messed up my search and I have to wait additonal 30 sec.

If it were up to me Emily, I would create a whole new forum just for you ;)

I already do. :greenpbl:

But seeing as how I'm a *beginner*... *most* of my stuff ends up there. :sexywink:

This is actually a very valid point - made even more complex by the fact that there is no set standards for beginner. So we get all sorts still considering themselves as beginner whilst all being on very different "levels" of the beginner ladder.

Maybe the only solution is to remove the concept of a beginners forum section? Break the site into a general discussions - crit section and galleries (as well as the tech sections). Do away with the concepts of beginner and advanced altogether

Even for a beginner, there is always a more specific section to ask a question in than the catch-all dumping ground of TPF.

I think the forum would get along fine without even having a specific 'beginner' section.

While your point about the definition of "beginner" is valid, I don't think I would have stuck around here very long if the "beginner" section did not exist. It gave me a place to start. It provides a place to ask questions that might go un-asked. It is reassuring to mingle with people going through what you are...while that might take place in other sections, it is certainly more obvious when the section is titled and described as a place for beginners.

You know none of these pipe dreams are ever going to happen here, right?

but but we like to dream -we can dream they can't take that way from us!!

If you guys are going to dream, do me a favor and dream for a "Nude Section" again!!!!
F the C&C.....lol

If that decision really was strictly ad related, moving it to a 'members only' section would probably work.

That's about the only thing that would get me to pay to post here.

I had just barely posted pictures in it when it got nixed. If we still had that, I think I'd be doing a lot more nude work.

Don't worry - they weren't self portraits... :lmao:
