tripod head maintenance?

I have a couple of older (maybe ~10yrs old) Bogen 3-way heads. Is there maintenance that needs to be done over time? They work fine but I wouldn't mind getting them smoother if there was some way to lube them.

If your heads are anything like mine 3047... then no. I wouldn't maintain them in any way.

The mechanism is wear compensating and the wear is minimal. I'd imagine they can last a few hundred years of daily use.

Thanks, Doc. Yes, just got a 3047 to upgrade from the 3029 (no QR or levels). Both are very solid and work great, just being picky and looking for a slightly smoother action for making small adjustments, but they will serve me just fine as is.
