What's new

What do you tell people?

It happened to me a few times. I usually just smile and simply say no. One time, I told them I was an unemployed photographer who couldn't break the habit. I think that confused them.

A few different times I've had people with Rebels ask me for tips or technical questions. I think having a gripped 50D makes it look like I'm smarter than I really am.

If I am shooting a sporting event from the sidelines/court side I tell them I am a fashion photographer for Cosmopolitan or Marie Claire. When shooting a reception, gallery event etc. I tell them I am with Sports Illustrated. If I am out on my own for fun I tell them I am with Al Jazeera. At that point they usually leave the crazy old guy alone.

It depends on who's asking me.

Hot girl = Yes, I'm a famous photographer.
Old man = No, I'm just doing this for fun.

:D

I never been ask.
But if someone ask me, I may just say, " I don't know .. hey by the way, do you know how to turn on this (my) camera?"

If I'm shooting an event it's pretty obvious who I'm working for (I don't do PJ or sports).

If I'm out for fun I'm a LOT more selective in what I shoot following the think twice shoot once theory.

My god these answers are awesome.

Mine are so dull and boring by comparison I won't bother to respond, but I've really enjoyed the others.

I got to agree. I wanted a serious answer but I couldn't help laughing at so many of these. Now I look forward to trying some of then out lol

Look to your left.

Look to your right.

Look behind you.

Look up.

Look down.

Look left & right again.

Then look them in the eye and say, "I'd tell you, but then I'd have to kill you!"

OMG, I wish I'd been asked. Instead when I started shooting seriously I would go on a job wondering which of my subjects was going to try and brain me first: the cops or the demonstrators?

I learned 2 tricks real quick like. One was to recon the demontration route to plan possible escape ways and the second was the film-switching trick so as to give the goons (demontrators - the cops didn't care, they just tried to brain you) blank film instead of my precious photos :)

You know, it's kinda funny, but wars were a lot more peaceful to shoot than demonstrations...

The old film switch, used that one a few times over the years, always gave me some satisfaction pulling that one.

Some of these responses are EPIC!

1. noting or pertaining to a long poetic composition, usually centered upon a hero, in which a series of great achievements or events is narrated in elevated style: Homer's Iliad is an epic poem.

Really?
