... If I am out on my own for fun I tell them I am with Al Jazeera.

You know, I actually used a variant of that once too. I was out shooting some old, abandoned industrial stuff on the TVA reservation, way off the beaten path. I know I probably wasn't supposed to be there, but anyway this TVA guy in a truck pulls up and very rudely asks if I have permission to be there and who was I with... "I'm a lifestyle corespondent for Al Jazeera, and I'm looking for the hippie colony. Have you seen it?"

He just looked at me like I'd lost it.

Lol. Incidentally, I believe the English started the term in the 17th century... and some how made it over here to the US soon afterwards.

Several years ago, we had a business meeting with some coworkers based out of London. We ended the meeting with plans to meet again a "fortnight" later. The call ended and the US based team looked at each other around the table with a confused look; no one knew what a fortnight meant and was a bit embarrassed to ask over the phone. LOL Me being the student engineer was tasked with googling it up.
