My second attempt at a self portrait. first was a 2 shot composite and this can be a selective coloring I guess. I used one light on camera right with a large softbox (i think 20x36) and ocf on my left hand side up high. I find that its harder to do selfies than shoot people. Can I get some feed back on lighting? composition? creativity? I'm sure this been done before, I seen a photo of apainting a wall and a person was standing by it and got paint paint on him and became part of the mural, so thats where i got my idea from. Thanks for looking and hope to get some feed back so I can improve.

The creativity is great. But what does the paintbrush have to do with this subject? I wish there were some connection to be felt as to why he's painting his face.

hes painting the color on. this shot would have looked pretty silly if you replaced the paint brush with a vacuum cleaner or knife or something.

I was going for something like when your days are down and you are frustrated you have to paint color into your life. Guess I didn't get that across. I'm trying here. any input on the lighting?

Well, kinda. I just didn't feel like the guy had any attachment to the paint. He seemed more MMA fighter kind of rage thing-then the paint brush. I think it's something you should play a bit with!!
I am thinking actually two shots combined. Two totally different expressions and the brush revealing one?

Oh, heck, I like it! Good lighting, good frame and pose, quite creative, and even though I would not have projected the entire concept, I like the idea.

That is an excellent idea. I wish I had thought of that before hand and "the guy" well.. thats me. It's a self portrait. I might just have to re-shoot this idea. Thanks for your thoughts. Like always, I enjoy reading your input.

Just your explanation in post #4 is deeper than I normally think. It's not you, it's me.

that was the only used brush I could find and the original color on the brush was blue ( i changed the hue) plus the brush was dry. i was working with what I got.

The ends of the paint brush not being colored bothers me. When you paint, the majority of the paint is at the end of the brush and only a little paint going up. I'm not good with catching photos that have been photo shopped but because I like to paint, I caught this one right away. I'd say, if you want to continue with the effect in this photo, I would at least use selective color and color in those ends. Otherwise, the persons face would also need to be gray to make it look "real". I hope that makes sense... I've had a really long day today.
