What's new

What is an appropriate amount of time to have/be a guest?

Take all of the whips, masks, restraints and assorted other leather-latex paraphernalia and start hanging it on the walls in the guest room and tell them they are more than welcome to stay but they will have to vacate the guest room every night from 11 PM to 4 AM as that is "play time". Either they will stay at a hotel or you will have a much more "interesting" time during their visits :)

I have some (all) of these to lend you if necessary. And a couple that weren't mentioned. ;)

I'm trying to imagine the look on the customs official's face when he opens that particular care package to inspect it... lol

I'm going to hand deliver it. I want Jazzie to take my pictures so it's the perfect excuse to go meet her :) Besides, the floggers are labeled horse whips. Totally legal :)
Sounds like a date. When can I expect the personal delivery? I'll need a few days to get my photo studio back in order, there is a bed in there right now....but now that I think about it, maybe we'll leave it there.
Pretty soon ... you'll need a revolving front door.

I cannot conceive of having anyone visiting for more than 2 nights.
We have a couple of relatives who live in California and who wanted to use our house as a base to visit and tour this area for 3 weeks and we just replied that we were too busy and having guests for that long wouldn't work for us.
It was a bit tense for a while but ...........

Can't possibly be as tense as actually having them stay.

You wouldn't believe the popping sounds my body just made during yoga. Who knew I was so wound up?
Ps- I admire your being able to turn them down. I've gotta build up a spine I suppose. I am terrible at saying no.

Mine does that just walking across the room -- sounds like a popcorn popper at a theater.

3 days tops.

Anything else would drive me nuts...being the visitor or host.

As far as being the guest, point me to the nearest hotel please. If I'm on vacation I want to be on my own schedule and come and go as I please without worrying about disturbing my hosts routine.

Didn't read all the posts, but when it comes to company that overstays their welcome, there is only one way to deal with it.

Man (or in your case Woman) up and have the uncomfortable conversation with them. Explain your issues as politely as possible and put a time limit on it. The only thing you're doing by adhering to the staus quo is the following two things... #1. you are setting the precedent that it is OK for them to stay as long as they'd like (since silence on an issue is often viewed as consent)and #2. Giving yourself an ulcer.

If they are the type of people that can't have a rational discussion about your home and personal space, then, if it were me, they are people I don't need in my life... family or not. I have "disowned" a few family members due to misconduct in the past.

Basically "I love you, now get out". You can paraphrase if necessary.

My usually unpopular .02.
