What is an appropriate amount of time to have/be a guest?

What do you consider to be an appropriate amount of time to stay with family for a visit?

(Don't inquire as to why I am asking, it's a can of worms I'm sure you'd like to leave shut ;-) )

if you are going to be there longer, get a hotel.

2-3 nights if it's visiting far away family or a holiday. But overnight plans must be confirmed with host prior to arrival.

If it's just a day trip, no more than 8hrs and no earlier than one hour after a meal.

No more than 3 days total, ever.

I would amend it to say if the guests have driven more than 4 hours to visit than a second night is allowed. 8 hours of driving and they can stay a 3rd night but they are expected to provide at least one meal.

I'm gonna go with "a few days". Granted back in the day when people used to travel by horseback or camel a few weeks to a month was common, but in our modern era of rental cars and hotels I think you'd be better off staying in a hotel if it's anything more than a few days.

Good. Now I don't have to feel guilty next year for putting a limit on the stay.

Seriously. Every year for the last 7 years. And "comany" doesnt like to help cook/clean/do dishes/ follow house rules. One of those items might happen 2-3 Times during the visit.
