What's new

Which program do you all like for editing?

I use Photoshop Elements 8 but have heard a lot of good stuff about Lightroom as well!

Hi all it is sort of on topic i guess. I love PS for all my image manipulation work however i cant open raw images in it from my nikon d5100 any ideas????

Aperture 3 and All of NIK's current software plugged into Aperture. Then Photoshop CS3 for everything else.

I myself like Lightroom also but lately I can't get it to work. I also have Photoshop Elements 8 so I guess for now I'll pretty much stick with Elements until I can get Lightroom fixed up. :sillysmi:

Thanks again everyone

What matters most is that you learn to use what you have effectively. Personally, I use CS5 including ACR (which is basically Lightroom). There are steeper learning curves, but the versatility is not exactly a bad capability to have in your software.

I pretty much only use the GIMP these days...

I used to use Lightroom a lot before I switched entirely back to film. The last version I used was 2.4 (started on 1.someting...). I was still using digital a little when ver. 3 came out, but I decided that I didn't use it enough to justify the upgrade...

GIMP does everything I need for film...

Can't open Camera Raw file | Photoshop, Photoshop Elements

Your version of Photoshop has to support at least ACR 6 to open D5100 NEF files - (Elements 9, CS5, Lightroom 3): Camera Raw plug-in | Supported cameras

However you can always use Adobe's free DNG converter or the Nikon NX2 that came with your camera.
