Why did my thread get closed?

Let's forget the other thread ever happened....trust me karissa.

Post pics, ask for critique, and take it for what it is.

I'm optimistic that this will work in your favor.

The other thread was closed to PROTECT you from further attacks, as well as to protect the entire forum from an annoying discussion and thus help other newcomers who have a serious interest in learning some more get more responses.

The name under which you first registered was NOT banned, however, so why on earth have you come back with a NEW name? Now you have two registrations, why ever are you doing that? I find that somewhat suspicious, to be honest.

As to your photography - well, in short: it isn't photography. It's shooting snaps and lacing them later with some artsy-fartsy pp work. You will need to first learn the VERY basics of photography before you can even think about using the word "art" at all.

And since this is so blatantly obvious to anyone here on the forum, the majority can't help thinking that you're only here to stir things up, and that you're secretly enjoying all these discussions. Gives you a good feeling about yourself, I guess, since you get such a response to your posts and others don't. And THAT is called "trolling".

I mean, her suspicious behavior to come back to this kind of stuff does make me think she's a troll? Who in the world would want to return to that? Obviously the OP doesn't get the point. Anyway her IP address can be blocked from creating accounts/posting?

idk....call me a sucker, but i vote if she returned to learn we should give her a chance to start over....

I'm too nice (or a sucker, whichever way you look at it) so I'm with SrBiscuit here.

New Photographer - I'm going to give you the sort of critique I would want. Honest but constructive.

Number 1 isn't terrible but would probably look better without the selective colouring. I know you like the technique - and yes, I was excited when I found out how to do it in GIMP too - but it is completely unnecessary in this shot. Use selective colouring to draw the attention towards something specific, not just to show off that you can do it.

As for number 2 I'd honestly start again. I posted a self portrait and got it torn to shreds on here so I went and shot another one which was MUCH better.
The shot is out of focus which is a pain - it's hard to appreciate a shot when it's not in focus. Reshoot and try something different with your focus (all of your shots seem to be OOF so it suggests to me you're doing something wrong).
The crop is very haphazard - half of the arm has been chopped off. If this was a post processing crop I'd be a little less liberal with it - if this was how it was shot then yes, you need to take a step back.
The white balance makes the baby look purple (pink? Can't really tell, I'm a deuteranomaly sufferer) instead of skin toned so this would need to be addressed.
Finally, the lighting seems uni-directional and harsh on the right side of the shot (baby's left) - try using some kind of light modifier if you're controlling the light. Failing that, a reflector to the right of the baby could fill in some of the shadows.

Said my bit - if you're a troll I've wasted a few minutes of my life.
If you're looking to learn then maybe my (amateur) opinion can open up some doors you shut off in the last thread.

Good luck
ok thankyou, i will try that.Have u got any suggestions as to why my camera would be making it out of focus. I read a few links the other day and I appear to be doing every thing right in that area??
And yes my composition sucks but I read and read and dont seem to be able to use the same techniques with my photos

cameras have a minimum focal distance...you may have been too close.

Because there are actually some nice people trying to help me on here but yes, It actually hurts alot to be called names but I try to ignore it for learnings sake. TBH I actually cried the first time someone was rude on here. But, thats because usually I dont get that.

...Anyway her IP address can be blocked from creating accounts/posting?

Can, of course, but for the time being I see no reason for doing that and will give her the benefit of the doubt... So with the new camera due in the mail, we'll soon get to see much better work! Won't we, Karissa?

What techniques *are* you trying to apply to your photos?

Gotchya.

A book I've read, and recommend to others is "Understanding Exposure" by Bryan Peterson. It puts the fundamentals into more easily understood terms. It's a great book, and can be had for around $17USD.

!??!? I'm just guessing here....

I Beat The Lock.

I was assuming this was getting locked.

I'm amazed that I was wrong. Not in general mind you, I'm wrong lots of times on lots of subjects. I just thought that this trolling was WAAAAAAAAYAYYYYYYYYY too obvious to continue.

Seriously? Someone comes here and starts a myriad of threads saying "Hey, I'm a Noob, pleas critique my stuff!!" Then proceeds to post a whole bunch of images that look PP'd specifically to broadcast all of the things that send this forum into a tailspin. OOF babies, Selective Color, Artsy Fartsy stuff that has no place in photography.. etc. etc. etc.

And then comes the best part. The OP fuels the threads with just enough praise and angst to keep the fun going until the threads get locked.... at which time He/She comes back under a different screen name to start anew, feins the whole "woe is me, I suck at this and people here are mean" attitude until she/he gains the sympathy of those here who have a heart..... then when she/he starts getting the advice she/he is looking for..... the cycle starts again.

My guess is that this is a past forum member that has grown bored with getting into the same old arguments with the same old folks, and wants to spice it up a bit with a new game. Start a new screen name, spend some time photoshopping some photos until you KNOW they will piss some folks off, then light the fuse and watch the fireworks.

I could be wrong about this too, but I doubt it.

Well, anywhoo...... enjoy the show!
