Thanks for all the replies - after working at this project for most of the day, I have decided that I'd rather keep the bag I have, however, I have come to a solution for the clips [I hope]. I'm going to purchase some good old fashioned buckles, remove the plastic clips from the straps andfasten the buckles to the straps. It will most likely take me just as long to open them, but at least the job of getting them open will be easier for me. It may be possible to convert a regular backpack into a camera bag, but I certainly don't have the patience needed to do it! I also don't see a way to do it that my camera equipment would be as safe as it is in a real camera bag. Oh well, it was a nice idea while it lasted.
