I know we have some Bostonians on here... this is probably a silly question, but ... everyone ok?

I work in Cambridge, which is really nowhere near where this happened, so I managed to get my butt on the train and get home. Probably will work from home tomorrow just to stay well clear of the fray.

Horrible.

I just saw some of the footage for the first time... when my wife pointed out the red stains I almost threw up.

Time to get really pissed, for some crazy reasons that are beyond my simple thinking this particular week historically has turned into a period where we have to become extremely aware of things around us to protect our families and communities.

OK here. Work several blocks away, but stay out of town on marathon day as a general rule.
I had thought about checking out the scene this year, but decided against it.

Messed up.

That whole thing was messed up some friends of the family were there for the marathon and had they not decided to go have a few drinks at a local bar they would have been right there. Glad everyone is okay and I am really feeling for anyone who was effected by this horrible event.

Honestly, don't see the point in getting mad. Anger causing suffering... if you'll forgive the paraphrased Yoda reference. Just doesn't make sense. No question that person needs to be found, but it's not like there's ANY way "he" can ever pay society back for this, and odds are if he really cared he never would have done it. What's more is giving him the attention he is getting (and will get) likely only encourages others to copy him.

It's a screwed up world we live in.

I think the part that gets me the most is some 8 year old kid died in the blast. Eight. Probably Mom and/or Dad thought "Wouldn't it be great to take in the boy to see the marathon?"

The only upside is that it could have been worse. According to the news last night, there were two more devices found, unexploded. Hopefully they will yield enough clues for the investigators to figure out who did it. As to why... it's too easy to call such acts evil. The challenge will be to eliminate the reasons that allow people to justify these acts of savagery to themselves.

Ugh. Just read that...

"(CNN) -- The 8-year-old boy killed in the explosions at the Boston Marathon has been identified as Martin Richard, The Boston Globe reported.
The boy was at the event to watch his father race, according to TV station WHDH.
Richard's mother and 6-year-old sister were recovering in a hospital after suffering serious injuries, the TV station reported. It said the boy's mother underwent surgery for an injury to her brain and his sister lost a leg in the explosion.

You know, I was in DC on Saturday and I had some pretty morbid thoughts as I looked down the National Mall. There were sooo many people there that if someone really wanted to cause chaos it would of been the perfect storm. Probably a million people w/ nowhere to go if something happened. It's sad that we have kinda been programmed to think about this horrible stuff. To see something actually happen 2 days later is scary as hell. It could happen anywhere.
My heart goes out to the affected families. Useless loss of life.
