christmas travel

I can feel I'm going to want to disappear on Christmas and the obvious choice in London. But no trains!
Any other way of getting there other than driving?

or hiking, takes a bit longer though.

or try to put your thumb out and hope people will give you a lift (preferentially rich elderly women) ...

further south? I might leave my place over christmas, but I am afraid it is not that far south to give you better weather
