GRRRR WHY WONT IT WORK

Thanks I will figure it out :) in the meantime I might just use some "creative" language at the camera from time to time.

Been there, but use these steps and take your time. Notice the clock on the stereo in the last picture compared to the flash shot. When your shutter speed is so slow the slightest movement causes blurring so you use flash so you can speed up the shutter in low light.

Ok...time to learn some flash tricks to calm that crazy flash lighting down then...since you are a girl do you have parchment paper or freezer paper in the house? The whole idea is to diffuse the flash. Pop up flash is the worst flash on the planet. If you have even some tissue paper to wrap arund the flash head it will help make the shot come out from under the blow out. Not sure how waxed paper would do, might change up the color tone. Maybe the plastic from a diaper might work, but those are costly to sizzor up if not used...

Even the bottom end of a pasturized mild jug (small) or as I have read recently, an Isopopyl Alchohol bottle.

The idea is to find an item to soften and diffuse the flash.

I like the last shot but you can see that the time in the time clock on the DVR is not there, so just a bit more of a light push is needed...

I found the book Understanding Exposure by Bryan Peterson very helpful when I was first learning about using the manual setting. I know a new edition has just been released.

I ordered it from Amazon this morning thank you :)

So then is there a book or a site i can read and when to set it at what or is it trial and error?

Understanding Exposure by Bryan Peterson. Or Google "exposure triangle" for starters...

And IMO, trial and error is a GREAT way to learn. But its important to understand the basics of how ISO, Aperture and Shutter Speed relate to each other first.
