Here are a few of my wife from a trip to the park...got there a bit late for sunset, so went this direction instead. Critique welcome.

Tear 'em up...I can handle it. My nits are that I should have brought a hair light and on the first, wish I would have shot from a bit lower...your turn...

Well, I guess that's what I get for posting images around midnight...

She's wearing black, has dark brown-black hair, on a black background. Everything but her face all but disappears into each other. You should have either had a light separating her from the background, or used a lighter color background, IMO.

And it's midnight where you are? Where the hell do you live? It's only 10pm here!

I think these are very well lit. As Rose indicated, they might have 'popped' more with a different clothing or background choice, but given the similarty of tone between clothing, skin and background, and the fact that they're all clearly discernable, you've done really well. I'm not overly fond of the pose in #2; I think there's a little too much foreground, and I think it would be better if she didn't appear to be leaning back out of the frame.

DFW = Dallas/Fort Woth...... ya know, Texas ma'am

Ahhhh, yes. I thought you would be behind us though, not ahead? Apparently I have an intimate relationship with the time-zones. :lmao:

Whats your lighting setup and your camera settings? I have trouble with black backgrounds...did you use spot metering? I love the lighting.... you would have benefitted from a hair light, but you already know that :)

also what is that thing she is resting her arms on?

Oh wow... i just reread.... this is at a park? It looks like studio work!

@e.rose I posted them at 12:17 this morning when normal people were sleeping. I agree about the hairlight.
@tirediron My original plans were to take some shots at sunset...My daughter slowed us down, but I didn't want to waste the trip, so I figured I would go low key instead.

Thanks for the comments and critique.

I'm East Coast like you, baby!................ just further south.

When I said "You"... I meant him. I have issues READING things today... and for some reason all I saw was the K in your name and assumed it was him. Never mind the fact that you're avatars are COMPLETELY different. :biglaugh:

Now I KNOW I need to go to bed early tonight.

It is a rock.

Yeah, it was at a park down the street.

For settings, I don't recall off hand, but basically, take shots without a flash until you get the background looking like you want it, then add flash to bring the exposure of the subject to where you want it. I think I used 1 SB600 with a CTO gel inside a soft lighter and a 42" reflector for the lighting. This was a few months ago.

I just figured if I was going to keep giving comments and critiques on other people's images, I would give them a chance to have their turn. These two just happened to already be on flickr and I was posting from my work laptop.

Sorry Kerbouchard, I've been in your thread twice without commenting on your photos. Bad form.

First off....... you have a beautiful wife. A very wise and gracious looking countenance.

I will agree with you on the hair light. I'm going to disagree with you on the lower camera position.

I think #2 is too dark in the shadows.
