My take: you all are WAY to serious about the rule of thirds. It's not a rule, it's a basic guideline. Just because a photo doesn't obey the rule of third, doesn't mean its a bad photo.

If he got his feelings hurt, chalk it up to experience and move on. If you're going to preach about the rule of thirds, know what the hell you're talking about. Dude, stop being a douche. The rule of thirds is meant to be broken, not every photo has to go by it perfectly. Find an interesting angle of something, that looks good, and take the fricken photo. Yeah, the rule of thirds is a DECENT guideline, but when you start pulling a ruler out to measure your photos and check it, you've defeated the purpose.
