What's new

I just bought a D700!!!!

I justified getting my D700, since my husband went out and dropped 25 grand on a car. I was originally going to get a D300, but then thought to myself a little...and said.."Screw it. I'm getting the camera that I want"! So I got it. And in the end..He wasn't mad. :P

Not sure if you have seen my other thread regarding the 55-200...but it's half broken...the zoom sticks....

Ok then, $10.

That's OK, I was 95% kidding anyways. I was just throwing out an asshattishly low number assuming you wouldn't take me up on the offer.

Have fun with the D700, and color me jealous! Also remember, that the steps that lead under the Stone Arch Bridge are now open for the season. That skyline shot with the bridge and water, at dusk would be a good place to try out your new baby if you haven't been down there before!

Holy snaps I just realized we're neighbors! I have not been there before...location please?

PM sent with location.

Here is a shot from there that I took before I had any Idea what I was doing. Someone with some knowhow should easily be able to make something out of that location

Congrats. I felt the same way buying the D7000, up from a D40.
Maybe some day I can be like you.
Totally jealous right now....

Enjoy...

You can take pics of the car when done :)

Congrats on the new purchase... its time to update your sig and yes I am very jealous :(

Does anyone have a guide on how to justify spending 2300$ on a hobby purchase to the wife?

Here's how I'm justifying mine: I just bought him a hobby car...an '85 Rx7 and he's looking to rebuild that thing with a new turbo engine of some sort that's gonna run me another $1500 just for the engine...let's not mention the body work and cool add-ons he's gonna stick on that thing too.

But even with that justification, I still feel guilty...prob because I remember the pain of earning every single dime.

You go girl!

He had to talk me into dropping this dough for the d700...because 4 years ago...I was drooling for the d200 and I finally got it a few months ago only to find that I was over my crush with it...and in love with the d700...he told me...what you're gonna wait another 4 years before you buy the d700 only to find you're in love with something else?...money will come and go...you can always make more...might as well live life in the interim....you deserve it, what are you going to save it for...it's true...can't take it with me...so I caved. ;)

Oooooh...I'm sooo going there!

Will not or will now?
Apparently, you didn't do very much research before you bought the camera.

Your D700, in default mode, will only use the central 5.1 MP of the image sensor when a DX lens is mounted on the camera.

Thank you much for the edumacation. I thought you might be saying will now wince I am experiencing that fall off (black edge) on come of my photos when I have the 50mm at 1.4? Maybe I'm doing something else wrong....yeeesh!

It happens even more often on Full Frame cameras with wide apertures. It's called vignetting. Look it up.

Shouldn't vignetting happen on all sides of a picture?...what I am talking about happens just on one side...usually the left side of the pic...a very dark black strip...sometimes it even looks like it has cut off half the pic...

Who WOULDNT have such a nice camera to shoot everything that is Minneapolis? Jealous of you equipment, and location.
