Please.

Sweetheart, there are grownass ADULTS that don't know how to start a business... and it's not because they're not smart, or mature, or grown up... it's because business is an ENTIRELY different animal then setting up a lemonade stand, or raising a couple bucks for your soccer team.

People get whole bachelors... MASTERS degrees in business because it takes a LOT of study. A LOT of work. A lot of math and statistics and headaches that you couldn't even begin to comprehend.

Do photographers need to get a master's degree in business to run one? No... but it takes more than throwing up a Facebook page and a couple of improperly exposed images.

I'm not trying to discourage your friend's... or yours... because I highly doubt this friend really exists and that you're just displacing the story to take the heat off of yourself... dreams. By all means, grow up and be a photographer and start a business... but don't be a cocky kid about it.

First and foremost you need to LEARN the craft. Crawl before you walk. Then walk before you run. THEN start a business.

Do as MWC stated and find out your state laws. You have to decide how you're going to run your business... how you're going to register. Who are you going to get to do your taxes? Can you do them yourself? Do you hire an accountant? Are you going to have a partnership, an LLC, a sole proprietorship?

What about insurance?

What will you do for marketing?

What about setting your rates high enough to sustain yourself?

There's A LOT that goes into it.

You're 15. It's OKAY if you don't know right now.

But being cocky and defensive and stating you "know" how to run a business is only going to gain you more negative attention here.

Do yourself a favor and humble yourself.

No. No she's not. That's the cold hard truth.

Not rude. Not mean.

Just the truth.

If she were a *very* good photographer her bad pictures would still be better than this one. She may be better than your 15 year old friends. She may be better than your aunt who just bought her very first Canon 1D Mark III to take pictures of her little bundle of joy with... but she really does have a long way to go.

The sooner the both of you can admit that... the sooner you humble yourselves to that... the sooner you can get to learning and then ACTUALLY getting better.

When we all started out we ALL sucked.

NONE of us were "very good" from the get go.

*I* STILL suck.

But the difference between you and me is that I can say that.

I can look at someone and say, "This sucks. But I'm going to learn from it and get better."

I've taken away A LOT from this forum.

I have had my ass handed to me more times than I can count.

I just got my ass handed to me a day or two ago... but I appreciate that because it makes me *better*.

Stop being so damned defensive, and take the advice people here are giving you. They're trying to HELP you, and you come back and call them names and insult them. That's only going to yield *ACTUAL* rudeness from them.

And yes. You're a 15 year old child.

No, I don't expect you to behave like a 25 year old adult.

But I DO know a great many 15 year olds with MUCH better attitudes than you.

Some of them are on this forum, and get the help they want and need without as much trouble as you're getting from the very same members here.

Well said! Couldn't agree more!

I love these threads. The OP is backtracking so hard, there's an audible BEEP BEEP BEEP as she's backing away from the original comments.

OK, the picture was a snapshot, no more. It was poorly composed, badly lit, and had a lousy exposure. It should go to the scrap bin. And, if that was the ONE BAD SHOT from an amazing portfolio, don't feel bad. Delete it from the collective memory of mankind and move forward. I just had a GREAT shoot and 60 out of 185 ended up in the recycle bin. And I've been taking pictures for 30 years. Yeah, like the combined lifetimes of two 15 year olds put together, right? Post some of the GOOD shots from the day and we'll offer the best comments, critiques, and advice we can. Pinky swear! But please- learn to accept criticism, otherwise you will never learn... or your friend won't, rather... or maybe the both of you... or something.

On the off chance you 2 really did think that was a great shot and all the rest are even worse... so what. We learn from mistakes. Take all the advice offered with a slice of humble pie, learn from it, put it into practice, and grow as photographers. We all started out taking lousy pictures.

I knew this would turn into a dog pile/slap fight.

TPF never disappoints.

I'm 15. Thank you for making elders hate kids and have to suspect we're illiterate retards that can't spell correctly. Bravo.

Are you really?

I had no idea. :lmao:

I mean I haven't been around lately because I've been busy, but I've seen you here and there and never suspected you to be a youngin'. :sexywink:

Take that as a compliment.

Believe me, I have.
But wait, why would I take compliments from you? I'm BASICALLY a professional.

I dont think that was rude at all, she was offering you or your friend advice that you probably didn't know. Instead of being rude about it you should have thanked her. If your friend wants to be a professional when she "grows up" I hope she doesn't share your snotty attitude when others are trying to help.

Anyways the baby is under exposed, the background is over exposed. When I look at the picture my eyes are drawn to the bright yellow of the background and not the subject. I would try using a reflector next time on the baby and maybe take the photo from a different angle to avoid the bright background or try fixing it in Photoshop.

just cuz we're young doesnt mean we dont know about how to start a business. we were perfectly aware. but thanks for the advice. she'll try that next time

Hey I just make a melted cheese sandwich, does that make me a chef?

Sorry, I know your only 15, your friend has a long way to go before she can call herself a photographer

she is a photographer a VERY GOOD one at that. this is one of the bad pictures out of the bunch. she wanted to know how she could improve on it thats why we put it on here.
