Need reflective base...

I want to have a reflective base for some photos I have in mind.....I have looked (online) at black reflective lucite. My question is, would I be better off with that, or could I use clear lucite, sitting on top of a black base (such as black foam core).....

The reflecting surface probably should be the prime surface if you want it to look right, IMO.

I've found that clear, 1/4" plexi on top of a black surface tends to give a stronger reflection, but it has a LOT to do with the positioning and type of light.

As stated, acrylic or glass over a black surface would be ideal. Keep in mind that all flaws show in reflections. Any scratches or surface variation such as wrinkles or bumps will stand out horribly. So you need a firm, flat, clean, polished surface. Even slight warping will cause problems, so thin acrylic could be inadequate. Personally, depending on how big of a piece you need, I would trying to get a piece of 1/4" glass cut at a glass shop. 1/4" or thicker acrylic will work, but glass will be cheaper and more durable, as in more scratch resistant.

You should be able to get some 1/4" to 3/8" tempered glass for a decent price.
