old negatives

I'm new to this forum so let me know if this is posted in the wrong place.
I have a lot of 1940s-50s B&W 41mm sq negatives from my father.. Most are from WWII. Many were cut into short 4 frame strips. Some are rolls of varying lengths. Is there a way to flatten these rolls so that I can store and scan them.I need to check all and clean some.

get some archival print file sheets, put them in those and then under some heavy weight . that might help.
