Well done! This is some nice work. If I might suggest, perhaps add one more picture to the first series of the baking? Say some flour on the counter and have her stirring something in a bowl? The foil pie plate isn't ideal, but it's not an image killer either.

The lighting is nice in all of them except for the last one where the white shirt is blown (leave white in the closet unless it's a wedding shot). A The poses are nice, but I'm not fond of the angles; it gives the impression to me that you weren't paying attention. The exposure in #2 is just a touch hot on the key light side, and she needs a touch less shadow around her right eye. Watch for things like the bra-strap that is peeking out in the first couple. You may be able to clone that out.

She definitely looks uncomfortable in most of them.

1 & 3 she looks alright in, as far as comfort goes, but I don't like the "almost duck face" pursing of the lips in #1.

#2 is not a flattering angle for her at all. You shot slightly below her (maybe you're shorter than her, I dunno... but you can feel in the image that you were shooting up... even if only slightly) and she's straight on to the camera. Both of those things are only going to accentuate her "double chin".

(Why didn't you number your images? You should know better. :greenpbl: I have to keep going back and forth to count which image I'm talking about. :er: )

#4 is not flattering in any sense of the word. She's a bigger girl, so having her wear something "boxy" like that is only going to make her seem stumpy. And she's straight onto the camera again.

She just looks really uncomfortable in the last one.

I think #1 might be your best one out of this whole set, despite the almost duck lips.

Really? I thought this pose and outfit worked quite well; maybe it's just the small size of the image.

Technically they are flawless except for the one with the blown out blouse. The model on the other hand, does not look happy to be there. I would have thought that the fact that there was pie would have lightened up her mood a bit.

Thanks! I had her with a rolling pin and the recipe book but the shots didn't come out right. I had a hard time directing her. What do you mean i wasn't paying attention to the angles? I said in my op i tilted some because she was square to the camera. Should i not tilt them? And the bra strap! Thanks! I forgot.. she even said she wanted them edited out.

I mean, that's just my opinion.

I think she looks stumpy. There's no shape to the coat, and her arms lifting up, raises the collar in such a way that it now looks like she has no neck.

Everyone in the world might disagree with me. That's fine. But that's how *I* feel about it.

Thanks all! does she really look uncomfortable? I hate that... especially when you can SEE it in the photos. :( I think that means i'm not doing my job. What should i do next time if someone is nervous? I mean with these type of shoots i would think the person that wants to do it is outgoing and at least comfortable doing this. She even took some with her bathing suit.
Erose... theres nothing I could do about her shape. You are mainly critiquing the girl, not the photos. :er: You are right though... with bigger girls i should be shooting eye level or higher, and not have her head tossed back. I know theres other "rules" for shooting larger people so I'll look into that :)

ASS!!

No... I'm critiquing the way you went about shooting her. She's a bigger girl, and therefore you have to be conscious of your angles and positioning. PHYSICALLY there is nothing you could do about her shape, but photographically there are ways for you to minimize certain features while accentuating her better features.

I was also critiquing the choice of wardrobe in the one shot.

There are certain things that just *aren't* flattering to certain body types... skinny or big... there are things that certain people wear that cause them to look a different shape than they are.

That dress in the first 3 shots flatters her... it gives her shape, but not in a bad way.

That coat on the other hand is totally unflattering to her in my opinion.

I in no way critiqued *her*. I critiqued your choices as a photographer.

But it's all a learning experience, and what I stated was just my opinion and you can do with it what you please. :sillysmi:

I think you did a decent job and the lighting is nice, concept, etc. Just touching on what e.rose said, of course you can't change her body shape. Certain things just do not look good on certain body types. For fuller figured women, something that emphasizes the waistline and shows the curves usually looks best, like a dress with a belt for example.

I actually don't even think she looks uncomfortable, more like she just didn't know how to relax her face and smile naturally. I'm not sure if that makes sense. I have a friend who does this, she's not afraid to be in front of a camera, but the second she is she has a deer in headlights forced smile. I don't have a lot of experience with models, but once I told someone to just scrunch her face hard, close her eyes, then open relax, smile. It definitely helped. I read that tip somewhere, maybe even here?
