No... I'm critiquing the way you went about shooting her. She's a bigger girl, and therefore you have to be conscious of your angles and positioning. PHYSICALLY there is nothing you could do about her shape, but photographically there are ways for you to minimize certain features while accentuating her better features.I was also critiquing the choice of wardrobe in the one shot. There are certain things that just *aren't* flattering to certain body types... skinny or big... there are things that certain people wear that cause them to look a different shape than they are. That dress in the first 3 shots flatters her... it gives her shape, but not in a bad way. That coat on the other hand is totally unflattering to her in my opinion.I in no way critiqued *her*. I critiqued your choices as a photographer. But it's all a learning experience, and what I stated was just my opinion and you can do with it what you please. :sillysmi:
I agree with you somewhat... And I am reading up on what poses work for bigger people. But I think some of what you said is OVERLY nit picky. I mean just because someone is big doesnt mean they cant do certain poses... Thats just very limiting. I totally understand on not shooting up or try to get some flattering angles. Why can't a girl pose in her class A uniform? I thought the pose was cute and I don't think I should have been like maybe you shouldn't do that pose because it makes you look "stumpy" and have "no neck". What I'm trying to say is she is who she is. Everyone is different. I dont think there is really any poses I could do to make her look like a skinny mini so why not just work with what I got and do some fun poses instead of worrying "we can't do that pose because of this...."

You asked for C&C... so I gave it. What I stated was perfectly valid. If you don't agree with it, that's fine, but there's no sense in critiquing my critique.
Why not? I did! :P

... What do you mean i wasn't paying attention to the angles? I said in my op i tilted some because she was square to the camera...
Whoaaaa Nellie! ;) I did read your post, and I know you said the angles were intentional. What I said is, "It gives the impression..." meaning that it lookslike it was accidental, not that it was accidental. Angled portraits are very much a personal taste thing, and they're not to my taste. In this case, I don't think they work very well, but, that's just my opinion - your mileage may vary.

You didn't critique my critique. You inquired as to why I thought what I did. There's a difference.

your mileage may vary.

I feel like I need to start adding this to every single one of my C&Cs lately.

Maybe I should just add it to my signature. :lmao:

I like the shoots, more of her laughing would be nice though. As already stated, she looks slightly unsure/nervous.

Maybe bring a squeeky rubber duck next time and just randomly pop it out ... i remember as a kid thats what the photographers would always do to make me laugh/smile (i am a grinner, not a full-fledge teeth showing smiler)...sooo that'd atleast help her relax some or get some good laughing shots :p

Or just randomly sound off with an airhorn. Sure it will startle her, but it is always followed by a good laugh and smile.

:/ you must of had a horrible experience with a photographer as a kid lol...an airhorn? yikes!

Woah i hope you don't think im upset about what you said... i just wanted to know what you meant. So maybe i should just tilt it more to make it look intentional, or do you think i should just keep it straight?

An airhorn? LMAO.. really? Well i laughed at just reading this.. so maybe it might work!

What do you all think about this edit? I lengthened her coat...

You said your photos were okay to edit, so I did a SUUUUUUUUPER quick one to show you what I mean.

Lengthening the coat was a good move... but it still doesn't do much more to flatter her.

She has a beautiful body shape, as shown in the first 3 images with that dress... but this coat does nothing to show it off.

I think if you tucked in the sides of the coat a bit to give her "shape" again, rather than letting her be a square box, it looks nicer.

Example:

Like I said, that's a REALLY quick and rough edit... and I probably used a higher pen pressure than I should have, because I wanted to do it quickly, haha, but that's the idea.

And it's not about thinning her out... I didn't touch her legs, arms, or *anything* like that. I just "tailored" the coat to fit her shape better.

After all... it's Pin Up... The purpose of that is to *show off* your body... not hide it under a stiff, square, coat. :sexywink:

Of course, again, this is *my* opinion, and as Tiredon says, "Your milage may vary".

I LOVE it! Its a subtle change but makes a huge difference. And its subtle enough so that she wont notice that work was done and think "hey... i have a nice curvy shape!"

So what did you do? Good job! and this was your "quick edit?"

Nice edit, e.rose.

I don't know how well it could be pulled off for that particular pose, but getting her feet angled just a bit to show some shape to the foot, rather than looking gilded lily like (Chinese foot binding)?

Very nice edit e.rose! You know how to use the lasso tool very well. :D
