What's new

portrait c+c please

You don't like bright and shiny, I'm assuming as a direct result (in most cases) from a flash? I was that way for a long time and I still am having trouble with flash. I truly enjoy natural lighting but in this case, there is neither. As a result, your photo is very unappealing to me.

Despite the fact you claim to have held a camera since the age of two means nothing to me. I've held one almost as long, but all it means is, I've been doing things wrong for the last 44 years and have nothing more than than a pile of 'sh!t photos to show for it.

ok so on this note this thing has gotten way out of hand and I want all of you to know that I dont like the traveler because of previous posts hes made in my other threads. I also am a man who lives by 4 principles and one of those is never assume anything. So what I'm posting in the beginners forum I must be a beginner then right or maybe I didnt know how strict you forum people are about where I post. Also I just really dont think traveling the world and taking the same uninteresting shots that a thousand photographers did before you makes those photos good IMO so maybe the traveler should learn to ignore all the high class education he received and go with his gut more. Some of the most famous photographers of all time have said **** the rules of photography, **** perfect exposure, **** perfect composition, life isnt perfect and neither is "good" photography. Good photography is a picture that invokes emotion and possesses an interesting quality. It's not Science! It's Art!

That is a ludicrous statement. Thousands of photographers perhaps, but were the photos done correctly?

Good photography is a picture that invokes emotion and possesses an interesting quality. It's not Science! It's Art!
Very true and I feel you have not accomplished this with the photo you have shared.

Life is too short to question everything. When you post in a beginner forum and provide no evidence to the contrary, I think it's perfectly reasonable to believe that you are a beginner. Especially since you don't seem to have much name recognition among the regulars here.

Please some sources on where these famous photographer have dismissed most guidelines on what actually helps a picture invoke emotions and gives a picture interesting quality.

You don't break the laws/guidelines of photography just because you want to be artsy, I'm certain that these knowns photographers you mention had something in mind when they broke the guidelines.

Actually, what our mind decide to be a good picture based on many variables such as composition, exposure and contrast is more science than you realize.

And yes; good photography isn't perfect, it is simply good.

Edit: And I don't know why you keep bashing the traveller when he explained that based on the pictures and where you posted them indicated that you were new.

The Traveller's photography is worlds better than yours, by what you have posted to the forums. Also judging by what you have posted, contrary to your belief, the beginner section is appropriate for your "work".

Art you say. Yes, yes, everything an artist spits, is art.

I second the suggestion to post links to these famous photographers you are quoting.

Really? Which ones? I honestly don't know because I really know NO famous photographers except Ansel Adams... and I only know him because you'd have to live under a rock to not.

Btw, many of the "rules" are not rules of photography, but rather rules of composition wrt to human/artistic that go back as far as the Greeks... these aren't just some trivialities that can be easily discarded and ignored.

I would bet money that all of those photographers first knew the rules and understood how to follow them before opting to say "screw 'em".

The best way to go off-road is to know where the road is to begin with.

I came back to see how this interesting thread had progressed and found this quote.

To get some perspective on what started Halestorm not liking me, this below was this only time I can finf that I have ever replied to a post of his.

He posted this:

so I took this a couple weeks ago and decided to do some editing. I did a little selective coloring and I know its cliche but I cant stop I just really like it in certain shots.

and I replied

Sorry, I don't think this is a good result at all.
The cross-hatched fence is in relative focus and very, very distracting.
Her shirt is almost completely blocked up in the shadows.
The skin tones are muddy and drab.
That bit of shirt sticking out is the brightest thing in the picture.
It looks as if you clipped her out of some other picture and dropped her in a new background.

I think you need to start with a shot more conducive to excessive PPing and go from there.

I'm not certain what he wants from people but, being addicted to truth-telling, I'm afraid he won't get it from me.

Only your responses. Everything else has been situationally justified.

I recommend you read my Sig line.

Then read it again.

BTW, thanks for the entertainment..... I sure did need a chuckle in the last couple days.

In regards to this.....

I'm pretty sure that photography is a combination of science and art. You can't have one without the other.

I may be wrong, but I doubt it.

underexposed

Wow thats all I ever hear "underexposed" u do realize that not all photographs have to be bright and shiny right?

dude no matter how your picture comes out and how good your histogram looks, everyone on here thinks everything is "Underexposed"... I am convinced when I look in the mirror I am underexposed!!

I say if you like it, then cheers to you !

Is there a way for me to delete this thread if so I would really like to.

No there's not. You live and die by your posts.

You can simply stop responding and never read it again, and pretend it never happened. :)

All of you are right and I was wrong I am very sorry for these posts and wish nothing more than to take it all back. I am afraid I will never be taken serious again on this forum which is regrettable because I've looked around and this is the largest photo forum on the interwebs. So to the traveler I am very sorry I know you were just trying to help and I dont think your photography sucks. Its actually quite good. I know I need to take all of your critiques seriously so that I can become a better photographer.

So I took what you guys said and gave the photo another try I'm not going to get angry when you have negative things to say about it so please tell me what you think
