I don't think shoes are necessary for an indoor family portrait, but a quick rummage in the dresser for clean socks wouldn't have hurt any... it's the little things that make the big differences.

I like # 3. The background is nice to see something different than the typical black or white!

Trust me.... If I follow my clients what background to choose, my photos would suck. Generally people like to pick a landmark and busy background (fountain, sculpture, sign, etc.) and do not think about the placement of the sun. They do not know what will photograph well. So for indoor in a house like this, try and find less busy background. Empty wall would be best. If you have things hanging on the wall, remove them. It is very easy to clone out nails on lightroom or photoshop.

Find a better background and it will be a lot better. Your practice pays off.

I would agree with the clients picking backgrounds that may not work. I have found this out even the last couple of weeks with another client where I had to blur our some background. As for these particular shots, you realize that is me and my wife? (So she gets what she wants whether or not it works. Keep momma happy)

I went back and edited the family picture and took out the socks with cropping.

nice photos, only thing i'd say is the background is not very attractive and in the 3rd picture there was to much smoothing done. Its especially noticable at the forehead and hair spots.

I could try to sharpen it up in post, that might help.

Yes,I did do noise reduction but his skin in very smooth too.

Thank you MiFleur. I am really spending time trying to learn as much and as fast as I can. I have received a ton of great advice on here. Charlie's been a great help on this thread, as has Derrel and Robin. I want to be able to show that it's appreciated and is being learned.

I got some new presets for lightroom last night from Matt K. over at Scott Kelby's site. I decided to play around with them a little.

This one is for 651stp. Just a little overcooked but it has more sharpening.
