Specialized Photography would be a good catagory to start with (for those of us who do fire photography - freelance, paid by depts, or vol for depts) etc. would be a good start. Some in depth articles on photography would also be nice to see. Also if someone posts about a new website (that does deal with photography) it should be put up towards the top of the site page for 1-2 weeks to get the word out about it so people see it instead of moving it within 2 days. I am more than happy to put a link to this site on the other photo site that I am on but only if I can actually get some cooperation here. (Right now I think that is too much to ask). I do like this site otherwise but believe that some of these improvements would certainly help. Thank You
As the jokesters are pointing out... You are getting down to splitting hairs here. If we had a section for fire, we'd need a section for flowers, bugs, jewelry, liquid, mineral, gas, fog, full sun, overcast... BACON. You see where it would go from fire to... There are amazing photographers who specialize in just about everything under the sun. We'd have THOUSANDS of forums and sub forums. It just isn't feasible for all of this to have it's own specialized section in a forum. The hierarchy would be mind boggling and the amount of different forums would be very off putting to members. There are already WAY to many individual forums in ANY photography forum today and because of it it's hard as hell to figure out where anything goes.
IMO? We'd be good with a CC section and a "just sharing" section. It's already way to broken down and in turn it's overwhelming and easy to ignore some amazing photography cuz it is in "specialty" forum that I (or anyone else) could care less about. Fire photography? I've seen some amazing work, however if it were it's own forum? SKIP! Not because it's not a viable section, but because it's not my thing-or someone else's.
As it is I have no clue which sections are fair game for cc or not and it's mind boggling to figure it out. Not to mention that you'd be the only one posting in your very specialized forum. If you post a widget photo in a general CC forum you'll get feedback, however if it becomes a very specialized thing? Yeah, not going to go there cuz frankly it doesn't matter to most of us as a specialty.
I am on forums who have a specialized Sports Photography forum. It's useless to share images with because the ONLY feedback I'd get is from other sports photographers. Not the general public. I need BOTH. I need to know what the other guys who are damn good at this specialty are doing and looking for and I need to know what the general photography buff sees. Both views are invaluable-and very different.
