What's new

Site improvements I think the site needs.

Didn't there used to be a NSFW section? I seem to remember that from when I first joined this site.

Specialized Photography would be a good catagory to start with (for those of us who do fire photography - freelance, paid by depts, or vol for depts) etc. would be a good start. Some in depth articles on photography would also be nice to see. Also if someone posts about a new website (that does deal with photography) it should be put up towards the top of the site page for 1-2 weeks to get the word out about it so people see it instead of moving it within 2 days. I am more than happy to put a link to this site on the other photo site that I am on but only if I can actually get some cooperation here. (Right now I think that is too much to ask). I do like this site otherwise but believe that some of these improvements would certainly help. Thank You

All of you "specialists" would get bored pretty quick.. when you were the only one posting in your "Special" section!! :) Most of the Websites that are listed are SPAM.... and it would add to the labor of our already busy mods! Only one other site? lol! There are lots more than that....

The only specific gallery section that I can support is a nsfw section for nudes. That isn't an option though due to the fact that the last time the site owners got excited and wet was when they were getting off the Mayflower.

Hear hear! Nudes are a valid photography subject as long as they are done with taste. As a PAYING member.. I would love to have that!

Originally there was no NSFW section, in more recent times a NSFW section was opened for around half a year or more, but it was closed and a restriction placed that we don't allow embedded adult images on the site. This was the result of advertisers requesting this change (assumed, far as I recall a firm answer wasn't fully given).

We do still allow direct links to such material (with suitable NSFW warnings for those at work of course).

I have another part that could be added. In the camera forum section, a lot of different camera brands are listed but there is one left out for sure: Fuji.

My primary camera is a Fuji and my secondary camera is a Kodak. My old primary is also a Fuji. They are really good products and are not getting recognized. Would it be possible to add that?

OH PLEEZE.. no more sub forums. It doesn't improve things... never has since the beginning of the TPF.

If, and only IF, NSFW section is allowed, that would be the only section I would see useful. Intended for separation of inappropriate content.

As the jokesters are pointing out... You are getting down to splitting hairs here. If we had a section for fire, we'd need a section for flowers, bugs, jewelry, liquid, mineral, gas, fog, full sun, overcast... BACON. You see where it would go from fire to... There are amazing photographers who specialize in just about everything under the sun. We'd have THOUSANDS of forums and sub forums. It just isn't feasible for all of this to have it's own specialized section in a forum. The hierarchy would be mind boggling and the amount of different forums would be very off putting to members. There are already WAY to many individual forums in ANY photography forum today and because of it it's hard as hell to figure out where anything goes.

IMO? We'd be good with a CC section and a "just sharing" section. It's already way to broken down and in turn it's overwhelming and easy to ignore some amazing photography cuz it is in "specialty" forum that I (or anyone else) could care less about. Fire photography? I've seen some amazing work, however if it were it's own forum? SKIP! Not because it's not a viable section, but because it's not my thing-or someone else's.

As it is I have no clue which sections are fair game for cc or not and it's mind boggling to figure it out. Not to mention that you'd be the only one posting in your very specialized forum. If you post a widget photo in a general CC forum you'll get feedback, however if it becomes a very specialized thing? Yeah, not going to go there cuz frankly it doesn't matter to most of us as a specialty.

I am on forums who have a specialized Sports Photography forum. It's useless to share images with because the ONLY feedback I'd get is from other sports photographers. Not the general public. I need BOTH. I need to know what the other guys who are damn good at this specialty are doing and looking for and I need to know what the general photography buff sees. Both views are invaluable-and very different.

I agree with this. Besides, don't most people just view threads using the Active Topics or Todays Posts (I can't quite remember what it's called right now)? So having more sub-forums wouldn't really change anything, would it?

While I'm pretty new here, I've been a member on a few other photography forums. I lurked around for a while checking out the site, it's forums, galleries, etc. And finally I joined because it has just enough of everything in sub forums to keep threads, photos, and posts specific enough, yet not so sub divided as to require a Hagstrom map to navigate it. It's a great site, and it's a very active site. And that's was one thing that I really was looking for.

I looked around the site more and think there is enough post to generate a seperate spot for wedding photography. I also thing photojournalism / sports should be split into 2 seperate things as it would make it easier to post something other than sports there and find it. If you could add a Fuji and Kodak section under cameras and split photojournalism and sports than I would just be happy with that. If this were to happen than I would be putting more of my posts in the other catagories besides basics. Thanks

You're certainly looking at this through your own interests, not necessarily what's best for the forum members.

As far as camera make forums go, by far the two most popular brands are Nikon & Canon, they both deserve they own forums as they are quite active. I can't see the need for separate forums for both Pentax & Sony, yet adding two more for Fuji & Kodak makes no rational sense other then having a forum for each brand that you presently own. It would make much more sense to just combine Pentax & Sony into one forum, change the name to some thing that would encompass all other makes, and anyone that has an interest in a camera other then Nikon & Canon would know where to go to post, look, or search for answers. It would also let the rest of us easily skim through it, rather then having to do so through 4 or more forums just to see what's what.

There are presently 9 photo gallery forums that encompass the full spectrum of what the vast majority of us take photographs of. That does seem like quite enough. I haven't really spent any time in the Photojournalism sports photography forum to express whether or not I felt a split would be actually needed.

No wonder some people are leaving this site feeling like they are being verbally assulted for just posting photos or commments or suggestions. It seems like that is what happening to me to. I just feel there is a need for a few changes so I went to the feedback section and this is the kind of response I get. Get shot down. Just like when I posted some photos for C&C and most of the time all I get is B.S. There are a few nice people I have come across on this site but for the most part the rest seem like a bunch of idiots so far for the way they're acting. Not too professional or adult in my opinion.
