What's new

Stef - C&C please.

I always love your work so I think I'm a little biased! But I love it! I really want to know how you do the skin smoothing so I can try it! Really love this picture! I don't think brown eyes get enough credit! :)

Thanks :sillysmi:

The skin smoothing changes with every shoot I do, haha. As I learn more I do it a little differently ever time. This time it was a combination of Frequency Separation and inverted high pass.

Youtube those and play with 'em. :sillysmi:

Awesome thanks! I've never even heard of those! Shows how much of a newb I am :(

Psh, that's what we're all here for love :sexywink:

Don't feel bad about it. :sillysmi:

Just for clarification sake...

Do you mean have her like she's *about* to touch her face and take the shot before she actually does? Or do you mean something else?

What about the background is distracting to you? I'm not disputing your C&C, I'm just curious to know, so that *I* know what's distracting about it.

Sorry about my English. :p
Let me explain a little more. If she just touch her face, that's good. But it seems like her fingers were pressing slight again her face.

As for the background, the bokeh looks a .. just a little .. tiny..... busy that all. :D

Okay, yeah, I gotchya now. She was pushing a little. I kept trying to get her to relax her fingers, but by the time I'd pull her nails out of her face and then lifted the camera she had pressed them in again.

Not an excuse, I know.

This was came from being a customer before. Long time ago before I bought my first DSLR, me and my wife went to a studio. One of the shot the photographer asked my wife to put one of her hand below her chin and my wife did that and he immediately ask her do not put pressure on her chin nor her hand. Just pretending support her head with her hand, but actually it was not.

I love it but I agree with Bitter, I wish the pearls were in focus too :)

Very nice. I like the overall unity of colour. As skin smoothing goes (based on cr@p I see on MM) this is quite well done. Would it be better if both eyes were in focus or are you going for something else?

As for her eyes... My intention was to only have the left eye in focus... but the doesn't necesarily mean it was a good choice

I think I like it that way, but I'm open to other thought so, who knows... by the end of this thread I might hate that they're both not. I already see what everyone keeps talking about as far as the beds are concerned so I'm already halfway there...

I give it

I like the DOF and the crop. Sure, the pearls could be more focused but I am immediately drawn to her eye (r) and lips. Well done!

That's perfect, because that's exactly what I wanted this image to do!

Excellent photo! If the pearls were in focus they'd be fake pearls, this way of course they're real. You nailed the focus where it counts. Crop, color, tone -- all excellent. Michelangelo said, "trifles make perfection and perfection is no trifle." One trifle: back up with a longer lens and she'll have a smaller nose. Best photo I've seen here in quite a while.

Great shot! I like the pearls being out of focus. The skin texture could have used another pass or two of smoothing.

I actually like her skin smoothing :)

Cool shot , looks like there is a pink string on her fingernail near the mouth and I would fix the small blemish below the nose line. Wish her eyelashes would have been longer but it works. 2nd the pearls in focus would have been cool.

Shoot well and thanks for sharing, Joe

Trust a jeweler to want to see the pearls...

My complaint is her skin. I don't know if it's makeup or any processing you did, but it looks like her skin has tiny bumps... like sandpaper... doesn't look like "normal" skin. Looks like bad makeup or weird processing.

Pores are slight depressions and we have millions of hair so we have millions of depressions in our skin. Stock Photography Images and Footage at Can Stock Photo :)

Where skin smoothing is concerned we are in a slightly problematic time right now because we are not yet used to the HD version of ourselves, especially close up.

I personally like the skin smoothing level here. Not full reality but not a doll face either.

And very good photo overall except for the fingers as mentioned by Dao.

Thanks for your feedback! I'm not sure what you mean by the above quoted text though...

That pink is a design on her nail... I guess it didn't bother me because I knew what it was, but I can see how it's distracting.

i love the shot, the skin looks like it has a grainy look (not photo grainy but makeup kind ), otherwise no gripes, i would like to know how you set this up i.e. where your lights were set, what lighting you used and lens. as i would love to take shots like this.
