Study in wood

We have an old sideboard that sits quietly in our living room, and is the home of family games, the accumulation of the kids art (mind you, the kids have all grown up and moved out, so it's either nostalgia or laziness that keeps the "art" there), and various things that don't seem to belong anywhere else. It's a piece we picked up at a barn sale many years ago, and it's not great workmanship or high-class furnishings. However, it does have its charms, especially when the light falls just right across the wood grain.

Tried that just now. Then the shadow extends to the upper left, with the light coming from the lower right. Doesn't "feel" right. The other way (u-shaped) works somewhat better in terms of light/shadow, but then the handle is not quite symmetric within the arch. I'm going to have another look at the sideboard and see what the other parts look like. There may be a better picture hiding in there.

I'd love to see it in black and white, maybe with a contrast bump. I think the monochrome would highlight those lovely textures. I love the simplicity of the lines and sometimes I find color a distraction in these kinds of shots.

Could use a bit more aggressive lighting to highlight the features. Like a lower more side-on angle.

i liked the original and in color. soft and soothing in some way and I thought it had some interest with the grain and lines, knob.

it was kind of warmish, pleasant.

To be a bit clearer than "I likey"...I really like the conversion. The orientation shift looks great too, but I also like the original orientation just as much.
