What's new

The Coffee House

We had a massive downpour here today. About a week’s worth of rain in 10 minutes. Temps never really dropped though so the humidity was oppressive. It's very humid right now for New England in July. 85° with 79% humidity at 530pm!

Thunderstorm blew through and took out the electricity about 2-1/2 hours ago. The power company say restoration to the area by about 6:30 AM.(10 hours). I have my nightly reading done: 597 consecutive days. 😁

I’m calling it an early night.

Cable company has a state wide outage here. Don’t bother me I have a roof top antenna. Yep I’m old school.

Welcome to our world, happens every time a mosquito sneezes here.

You can say that again...

Thank you! 😁

Power co. took a little longer than expected. I checked their web site and the restore time had changed to "Undetermined." I decided to just come into the office today so MLW and I left about 6:45. Power came back about 7:30, I guess.

Geography stuff in my email:
The U.S. Census Bureau today released 2020 Census counts of households, along with information on household type and tenure (whether the home is owned or rented) for 300 detailed race and ethnicity groups and 1,187 American Indian and Alaska Native tribes and villages.
Cool!

I think you got the same system that blew through here. Really tropical in nature, heavy straight-line downpours. We've had this about every 3-5 days since the start of June! I've posted pictures of our backyard floods.

I'm over this summer. Last year was about perfect, temps and rain-wise, but we had the smoke from the Canadian wildfires to deal with. Gah!

2022 We had a lot of heat and no rain. I had just planted most of my perennials and spent a lot of time watering!

2023 Lots of rain. Every weekend. Gardens were fantastic! Happy happy plants. Nice livable temps. Beach goers not so thrilled.

2024 So freakin hot hot hot and oppressive humidity almost every day since mid June. It has been difficult to even find a cool enough hour to water the plants. I weeded at 9pm one night because they were taking over.
