What's new

What do i want for christmas?..

Get the 55-250mm $250
Now, i have a question
Will the 50-250mm be used all the time once i get it?
Or will i be better off using the 18-55mm for certain things and the 50-250mm for others?
Thanks
Anthony

Since the 55-250 and the 18-55 overlap somewhat, they can have different uses. The 18-55 for somewhat wide angle and maybe portraiture and the 55-250 for the telephoto end of things. Somewhat! What?

So the 55-250 could be for more like nature shots and things like that?

Yes sir. And I even have one; it's by no means "L" glass, but it does OK by me.

"L" is Canon's designation for their better lenses, I guess for Luxury. Mucho expensive!

Alright, Haha i think im most def. gunna go with the lens
Sounds like a good idea
Maybe save up some money to get the reflector

he likes portraits and no one said a prime. I'd thinka 50 f1.8 and a shoe mount flash that can be used off camera

Yup.
I had one (well, still have) on my Rebel XSi. It's not bad. A little soft at the far end, but, you know, it's not $1600 L glass.

It will teach you in the long run what you like to shoot most, for future lens purchases, when you have money to get nice glass.

For startin' out, you'll love it.

I couldn't offer anything for you, well because I'm still debating on what I want. But if bitter or mrpink say something is good, they are usually right on the money!! Most of the people that give advice here know their stuff...most! I lurk and learn something new every day! Just giving my cents worth...

How to catch the perfect picture? Let us all know when you figure it out!
:lmao:

That has to do with your creative vision. Having as many tools available helps.

Don't be fooled by the common misconception that lanscape photography requires wide angle lenses. With that lens combo, you'll be able to shoot wide(ish) and tight...

I picked up a set of $50 extension tubes and I'm having a blast with them! I mean, it's really FUN! Good, good, bang for your buck accessory I think.
These ones:
MCAETEOSP Pro Optic Budget Auto Extention Tube Set for Canon EOS SLR Cameras

On my Xmas list is a battery grip, battery, various books, a good CPL filter, tripod with ball head and pistol grip, a macro lens (not sure which,) and a Lowepro sling bag.
And I have the same camera as you so...

Haha, like when you add the extension? What does it extend too.. like would i be better off buying the 55-250? Or the extension?
And thats some xmas list xP : )

I hate to say what I want because it came on the UPS truck today. 2.8L 70-200mm
THANKS SANTA!!!!

For versatility I would go with the 55-250mm. If you're specifically wanting a lens for portraits then the 50mm f1.8 would be good. It's around $100 and you could get the reflector, or a flash with it. Keep in mind that the 55-250 makes a pretty decent portrait lens also. Back up and zoom in on your subject and it can produce really good results with a nice depth of field.

Extension tubes are for macro photography, that is, photographing little tiny things. The 55-250 is a zoom lens, totally different uses.
