What do i want for christmas?..

any decent lens to fit a nikon D3000 since you didnt even post up what you have to work with i can't even begin to give you an answer other then something i could use. pm me for an address.
:lmao:
split the cost in half and pm me for my addy too :)

For versatility I would go with the 55-250mm. If you're specifically wanting a lens for portraits then the 50mm f1.8 would be good. It's around $100 and you could get the reflector, or a flash with it. Keep in mind that the 55-250 makes a pretty decent portrait lens also. Back up and zoom in on your subject and it can produce really good results with a nice depth of field.

Welll, im not particularly interested in portraits, but once in a while i would like to maybe snap a picture of my family or something
So far, it all interests me, but what interests me the most is nature photography, and maybe skateboarding photography here and there but nothing serious with the skateboarding photos.
But the whole nature thing just seems nice,
Just taking a good hike, and getting some great pictures seems like such a great thing to do, lol

The kit lens (18-55) is pretty decent for nature shots IMO. It's got enough range to be useful and it's sharp enough. I would pick up the 50mm 1.8 for $100. If anything it will force you to plan your photos better being that it doesn't have any zoom function. I know it really helped me grow as a photog.

Well, than this may sound ridiculous but than maybe i can get it and just leave it in the box for a while?
Like once i get used to the 18-55 and think ive outgrown it, unbox the 55-250?

You're still misunderstanding. The 18-55 and the 55-250 have different uses. The 18-55 is for things fairly close to you, the 55-250 is for things that are a ways away. It's not that the 55-250 is better than the 18-55, it's just a different lens for a different function.

Haha, ido understand that, i just got mixed up on what you were saying, and than i thought otherwise... Lol WELL
For nature, is why i was thinking originally a better lens, like the 55-250 would be better, i dont want to spook anything, and i want to get a good shot of it. Than comes in the lens, which is why i think i wanted to get it xD

Nature means a lot of things.
From flower and insect close ups, to birds in trees, to elephants in a zoo, or a fox on the run, to a babbling brook, to a waterfall, to trees, to canyons, to moutnain ranges.

You could use either lens for all of those.
It depends on YOU as the creative entity deciding how YOU want to photography it, which dictates which tool you will choose to use.

Haha, my head hurts now, lol.

Ah. Now that that's cleared up...

I will say this, I have the 55-250 and I don't find myself using it all that often. I normally shoot things that are stationary and close by, although at the Zoo I could see it having its uses...

No don't do that. They are for different purposes. The 55-250 isn't a 'better' lens. The point of DSLR's is to use different lenses depending on the situation.

Leave the lens use up to the photog.
My 100-400mm tends to be my walk around lens. :-P

The 50mm 1.8, worst $100 ever spent. Used it twice. :lmao:

My point is, how lenses are used is personal. You might not use the lenses I have for the same purpose.

I do think, if the OP can get someone to drop some coin for some gear, and all he has right now is the 18-55mm that the 55-250mm will give him a great range for learnin' and 'sperimentin'.

Okay, i think you have convienced me, i want it, Haha
I thought about it, allthough i do want to take pictures of trees and things up close, i would like to take pictures of bugs, and birds, and wildlife that i cant get to close to without them running
Personally i would like some close up shots, from far away : )
Thanks,
Anthony
