yeah I know. im just sort of pricing because I don't really care what I get (more about price) but I need to replace what im using now at some point. It is on my to do list. I just look, do other crap, look again, do other crap.
All I really need is some decent lowlight a telephoto and something that goes further than what I have now on my point and shoot 180 mm and 20+mp. so im really looking for a okay lowlight body and a really great lense like 24-300 or something. I don't want to carry three lenses either. I want one. all around telephoto and maybe pick up a macro or close one. I DONT want a standard kit lense it would be useless to me. if I got a good deal on a 610 id take that, or a 7100 I would take that. id even take a 3300 or a 6d I have my preferences I really don't care depends on the markdown. if I knew a local store that had any of the above locally with a huge markdown id be driving over right now (I prefer to buy things in person anyway) but im coming up with nothing. My main limit is I don't want to carry around too much money in camera. I don't like carrying valuables. More something costs more paranoid I am over it. you guys probably get a good idea of what I shoot now from the recent weeks, mostly night, dark, telephoto (but I do some landscape too). And they tend to suck, partly because my camera sucks. which is why it keeps popping back up on my to do list. But im not a pro and have no intention of going pro, I don't need pro equipment.

I use a 70-200 mm f2.8 sigma myself. I have a 2x teleconverter for it so i can go from 200 mm f2.8 to 400mm f5.6 and I only need the one lens. I've found it to be an incredibly versatile combination

I paid about 700 for the lens and 130 for the teleconverter both used. I have the os version so you could probably get cheaper if you go for a non os/vc version.

For less than 70mm i have a 50mm prime.

reading about the time setting (t) on the 5300. so you can go past bulb and leave the shutter open for as long as you want. Does the 7100 have that option?

I have the Nikon D5000, the precursor to this one, and trust me; it is way more camera than you can possibly outgrow anytime soon.

I remember you were talking about getting a 7100? You have a 5200 now? I was just looking at a stat that said the 5300 does better in lowlight than the 7100? Imagine when they come out with a 7200 that will improve though? And you still have the 7100 buffer thing? Have you contemplated waiting for the 7200 or just buying a 5300 which from what im looking at is a pretty decent camera for the price?

too funny. I was just reading about the 5300. Maybe I am picky. Because id like a 7100 with better iso a swivel screen weather sealed magnesium body built in flash and wifi and no buffer issues. If the current 7100 offers worse lowlight and iso than a 5300 or 3300 I might as well opt for the cheaper one id flip out soon as I couldn't get a decent low light pic keeping the noise down after paying way more. 610 looks nice, but still doesn't have all im looking for and the pricepoint I don't like at all because with lens that puts me at over over the 3 k range. Did I ever mention that it takes me two hours to pick out a pair of shoes and im a guy?

Lol.. well kind of a long story here but I'll see if I can get you the readers digest version. Originally I had a d5100 and was looking to upgrade to the d7100. Along the way a guy I know ended putting me in touch with his brother for a computer repair job, the brother ended up trading me a d5200 (new in box, no less) for the computer I built him. So after getting the D5200 I decided to wait until the D7200 was out (most likely sometime this fall) before seeing about upgrading. My thought process is that no matter what price point they set the D7200 at, when it's released you'll see a ton of D7100's hit the used marketplace and I can get one a whole ton cheaper, or I might go for a D7200 if the price vrs features is something that floats my boat.

I looked at the D5300, there were some features there that sounded nice but for what I use it for it really wasn't worth the extra $$$ over the 5200. The other thing that made me a little standoffish about the 5300 is that it does have some issues with some Sigma lenses, Sigma will upgrade the firmware for you for free but you have to ship them the lens which really didn't thrill me all that much.

sounds about right. There are just too many camera and lens choices too. which doesn't help. 70d as articulating screen and built in wifi YAY!!! but I guess the images wouldnt be quite as crisp. SIGH......
I think I know the real problem. Manufacturers make cameras with various odds and ends of options just to mess with your head and make you buy multiple cameras and constantly upgrade.
