Gear snobs exist. They're annoying. And they're wrong.

It's like the cast iron vs. teflon groups. I prefer cast iron for it's traditional cooking style and I always butt heads with the teflon snobs and their fancy pans.

Actually, what I said was, that there is no myth that you need a $7000 camera to take good photos. Because there isn't.
You can take good photos with a cheap camera. You just can't take 'any' good photo. As in, in any circumstance or condition. Just some.
There are conditions where you need expensive gear, there are conditions where you do not.

That's completely different than your interpretation of my post.

The first post seems to more or less say that while you don't really need an expensive camera, you'll wish you had one. The second post says that the camera is just a hunk of metal and plastic, and it can't do anything without a good photographer behind it.

Again, that's not what I said. I said:

Me: No. I don't. Take the battery out of your camera, and take a picture. If your camera isn't battery operated, take the film out of the camera, put the camera down, and take a photo with just the film. How did those photos turn out?

I don't believe that it is the person that makes the picture alone. Try to take a picture without your camera, and that would answer your question. In other words, you need your camera to take a photo. Without it, you are not a photographer.
