I do not understand how you got such a close up shot at 62mm? Surely you are using some kind of zoom? My 50mm prime lens can't do that?

Oh! so you took a pic of the whole bag and cropped just the center. It's amazing there are no specular reflections on the pebble leather, and yet your shutter speed is pretty darned fast. For your shutter speed to be so fast at ISO 200, you must have been using stadium lights, and yet there is not one reflection????????
I tried to take the same picture at iso 800 with that same shutter speed and got a very dark picture..at ISO 200 i would have had a pitch black image.

Well he must have a full frame. It makes no sense to use this lens on a full frame it's designed for the cheapo cameras with the smaller sensor.

That lens could focus close. Yeah it was the sigma, probably shot on a d3100 or d5100. I'd have to go back and look. Used flashes and a very similar softbox.

The author speaks of a small light source producing hard edged shadows vs a large light source which produces a soft shadow.
What does he mean small vs large? Does he mean one is intense and the other a soft light?
Or does he mean the physical diameter of the light is different?
I thought a very intense light such as sun would produce a hard shadow? What does he mean a SMALL LIGHT SOURCE?

Umbrella
or beauty dish?

Are 2 x 200 watt strobes on either side of the tent enough? I would use them without the softbox, and let the tent do the diffusing?

How is your progress with reading the book?

I'm guessing that somewhere in the book will be some hints as to where to place your lights.

I have not got to that yet in the book. I'm just curious and wanted to know if I could lessen the expense and forgo the softbox. My current softboxes only work with the cfl bulb, so i would have to buy news ones + strobes.
If my lights have to be placed in somewhere front of the subject (which I strongly suspect) , I will have to buy new soft boxes, because the front of the tent is open. If on the other hand the strobes can be placed to the side of the tent (front side) the tent would dissipate the light. The wattage is also a concern. I'm sure the book has some of these answers, but I want to read it from the beginning to end without searching for bits and pieces in the middle.

If you don't understand why you are placing your lights in a certain location, then you won't be able adjust them correctly.

read the book.
slowly,
and test the concepts/ ideas.
everything you are asking about Now and Later, are in that book.

otherwise, we'd just be regurgitating the book without completeness and examples.
