I currently own d7100 with Nikon 35mm 1.8, Sigma 17-55 2.8, Sigma 10-20 4-5.6 and Nikon 80-200 2.8.

I would be looking sell all the lenses with the body with the exception of the Nikon 80-200 which I recently acquired. I will mainly be shooting portraits which is why I've ruled out the D500 which would have been better for a lens compatibility angle.

Which one lens would you get to complement the 80-200, Nikon 24-70 ?

The d750 is better, but unless your shooting portrait in dark areas probably you will pay big money to get improved photos. Have you speedlights and reflectors etc.

Anyway, most say the Nikon 85mm f1.4d is as good a portrait lens as any.

All the fast 24-70 f2.8 are good, but you'd need to check out images to see which ones render the way you like.

what's your budget ?

It is hard to imagine why you think a D500 would be a poor choice for portraits. For that matter it is hard to imagine why you think the D7100 can't manage it.

Agreed; portraiture is the area of photography where the body makes the least impact IMO.

You really have a good setup, I used to own the D7100 and now I own the D750, love it but for pure portrait as mentioned by others its more your skills and less the body.
For portrait I mostly use 2 lenses Tamron 70-200mm 2.8 VC and Nikon 85mm 1.8G.
My Nikon 24-70mm 2.8G can do a good job for portraits but for head shots I will use the 85mm or better 70-200mm for the extra compression.
As for sharpness the Nikon 85mm 1.8G is super sharp but honestly both the Tamron and Nikon 24-70mm are more then enough on that front, for me its more about the compression in head shots.
The 24-70mm brings a lot of flexibility to a shoot, if I am in a studio then I control everything so I will mostly use the prime of 70-200mm, outside the 24-700m will help me with getting the job done in some situations.

The D750 is an amazing camera and the Nikon 85mm f1.4d is a great lens!..... I also agree with the comments above, if you are mainly doing portraits a DX body will be fine unless you really need the higher ISO.....I use the D7000 & D610 for my portraits and I can't tell a difference when using strobes.

All the above is sound advice. I would suggest maybe keeping the current kit and testing using the DX body with a 50mm f/1.8 (or 1.4) and the 85mm f/1.8. See how that improves your portraits. I still have a DX Canon body and use it for portraits with either the 24-70mm f/2.8 or the 50mm f/1.8 STM or a 70-200mm f/2.8. Of all three of those lenses, I truly find that I get better images from the 50mm prime. I would love to have the 85mm f/1.8 but haven't gotten it yet.
