First, I love that e.rose not only put on her duckface, but put a mustache on to boot.

Second, I love that overread slipped in that remark about the cat licking his fingers and no one was horrified.

Third...

To the OP... think a bit about what you're asking... you're basically asking that there be some cage that we put certain members in to keep them away from other members. To this I have to ask you... who judges who goes in the cage? And how do you judge it?

Yeah, there is no question that some people can be harsh at times... some folks more often than others. I, myself, am occasionally pretty rough with folks when either I think they need a dose of reality, or I just happen to be in a bitchy mood. It happens. Do I go in the cage? I mean, perhaps I do, but something tells me I probably wasn't on your list... and to be honest, if >I< were to be the judge of who would go in the cage, I would almost definitely put me in it.

So then there's the question of what you're costing yourself by putting those people away. Some of the grouchier people on here also happen to be the ones who have REAL knowledge in their heads and are actually willing to share it. In fact, some of the most knowledgeable people on TPF in the past were the most cruel. If you box them away just because they happen to be a little mean, you're going to miss out on a lot.

In the end, honestly... I think you and anyone else need to either get over it or vote with your feet. This is the internet and the internet isn't always the kindest place. If you get a little butthurt now and again... well... maybe it's good for you. Work on developing a thicker skin, learn how to filter out the "meanness" of the remarks, and look to the core of what people are trying to share with you.

IF they are being outright abusive, well, then just report it... or block them... in time these things have a way of working themselves out. Very few people who are TRULY awful ever last here more than 3-6 months.

I am one of those who judges people by their avatars. I couldn't stand looking at Tylers old avatar (I like his new one BTW) but, I love mishele's. There is an avatar of a person on here similar to a guy who raped a close friend of mine and I had to block him. All of this may very well be foolish yes but, for me an avatar does say something about you. I'm not saying that the attacks were right how they were done but, none the less an avatar represents you.
Well, I certainly hope that I and my husband <<< don't offend you

I am extremely offended!!!! I shall now block you Mary Todd and Mr. Lincoln!!!!:lmao:

In the thread above, we can see see plenty of rude, condescending, outrageous treatment of a new member....the SAME, exact, teenaged new member being ripped on here. And today, we have people talking about this girl's avatar? On the 25th it was a simple, honest question about high key techniques--posted in The Beginner's Forum...and she was savaged!!!!!!! There's a difference between having a disagreement with a long-time member, or somebody who is offering suggestions or methods or examples in one of the "advanced" sub-sections...but the OP in this thread is talking about 1) a group of people who are 2)repeatedly attacking new members 3) in the beginner's forum.

I have seen her replies to some pretty outrageous posts leveled at her, and have come away impressed by her maturity and ability to stand in the ring and take repeated salvos of powerful shots without folding...

I didn't see her post. I gather it was harsh.
For her to stick around if it is as bad as I'm gleaning then she has great strength of character.

I agree... she has shown fortitude!

I'll tell you this much, I was part of the douchebaggery pouncing on her in that thread (sometimes I let my ass get in front of my mouth), but I don't know many people that could take it as well as she did.

To be honest, I'm a little offended at being called out for being 'rude'... I don't deny being rude, but I think that rudeness is needed sometimes. The real world isn't always rainbows and unicorns...

I know I have my bad days, like anyone else, and I hope that there are enough good days to cancel out the bad days.

I tried to find my old thread "Lets not become a Kiss and Coddle Forum!"... but it appears to have been deleted! lol!

TPF has changed a lot.
There used to be a few really bad people; not jerks, not loudmouths, just bad people.
They are, in the main gone.

Now we have people, including myself sometimes, who are damn rude.
That's not the worst.
It's the people who jump on newbies because its easy that really hurt the ambiance of this place.

We can't expect the mods to step in every time this happens; it's really up to the other members to manage a$$hole eruptions.
Not by passive aggressive crap which ends up just disruptive and offtrack but by asking for better behavior.

I feel as if I should cause a fuss over everyone copying my avatar.

Lew, I don't mind people who are "damn rude" I have had several threads that were rough for me to deal with but, I feel it helps me grow a thicker skin. Personal attacks I don't think are right but, this is the interwebs so I take it with a grain of salt and move on. This is all of course what works for me.
