What are these used for?

I recently bought a lens from someone online and she was kind enough to send me some extras.. I can guess what they're for and how to use them but some advice would be nice!

The first two images filter-style "close-up" lenses (the ones with a "+"); these screw into the filter threads of the lens that's mounted to the camera and allow closer focusing than otherwise possible. They are generally poor quality and cause excessive distortion. The other two, the Skylight and the UV are pretty much pointless with a modern digital camera

#3 appears to be a cheap telephoto "adaptor" to allow for greater magnification which again attaches to the front of the lens. Despite the use of the word "Pro" in the name, it's anything but, and, depending on quality will impart anything from moderate to severe distortion. Image #4 is essentially the same thing, but for close-up work (a different way of achieving the same result as the filters in images 1 & 2).

These may be better than nothing, but only marginally. I would avoid using them unless you really need them.

Close-up filters are use for......... taking close-ups.

The FLD was used with daylight film to correct for fluorescent lighting.

The UV filter is for cutting out UltraViolet light, something that most digital cameras do anyway.

The 2.2x lens is allegedly a teleconverter that screws onto the front of a lens and is supposed to multiply the focal length of the lens by 2.2x. It's junk. Trash. Worthless. Same for the 0.45x.

Lol thanks guys. Kinda figured that they wouldn't be anything spectacular given the price. Although the macro lens gives a fisheye effect which is kinda cool. Might play with it for a minute.

Yeah, have a play with them. The thing with cheap filters is they tend to degrade the image quality so much because of low quality glass that it makes them pointless to use. The Tiffen one is a decent brand but UV filters are not needed with digital cameras as they already have UV protection built in, and as far as protection goes the glass on the lens is harder and more durable than any glass filter. So they don't tend to get used.

The Raynox 250 is probably the best close up filter on the market, it's cheap and has very little IQ issues, but it's very much the exception. Reversing rings and Macro extension tubes (which have no glass) can yeild pretty good results too and are worth considering if you want to shoot some macro stuff.

Thanks for the info! I do want to get back into macro stuff but can't justify buying a lens yet.. I'll look into the tubes and such.
