Hey everyone! I've spent the past 3 days photographing different ships and atmospheres around Baltimore, MD with my D800. There have been both sail ships and navy ships from all over the world coming in. Mexico, Guatemala, Indonesia, Japan, and many more were represented by their respective ship(s), and all were docked in the Inner Harbor in Baltimore. It was quite a feat. But, in all honesty, it wasn't really an incredible atmosphere for photographers. There were straps, and lights, and people, and signs, and extra ships, and just a BUNCH of stuff everywhere that got in the way horribly. After all that, I did manage to pop off a few shots that I particularly enjoyed. Please feel free to C&C any that you'd like. I always appreciate feedback.

All the shots were taken with some combination of the following:

Nikon D800
Nikon 17-35mm F/2.8
Nikon 300mm F/4.0
Sigma 85mm F/1.4
Kenko 1.4x PRO300 Teleconverter
B+W Slim CPOL

Sorry for so many photos. But, I'd appreciate any advice or criticisms you have on any or all of them. I also have color versions of the B&W ones if you feel it would be better in color.

Thanks for looking!

10-2 is my favorite, hands down.

I knew you were in Baltimore as soon as the first photo started loading lol

The #11-12's all have this bit of whimsy about them that makes them appealing to me. I also think #3 conveys the most emotion, maybe because it's blatant and I'm not so good at judging photography, either way, that's my fav.

there is a clarity about these images that is amazing.
the lenses plus d800 are a wonderful combination.

I'm not sure if this is because I may have been shooting in DX for that particular shot, or because I was using the Kenko 1.4x TC. Probably the former.

I don't know what people are on because 10-1 absolutely steals the show for me here. It might benefit from a bit more pop (i.e., contrast) but looks great as is.

Number 13 didn't bother me much either.

Congrats on the D800, looks like you're going to have endless fun with it.

Like everyone... 10-1/2... awesome.

Some nice images across the board, but wow.

And as Lew said... look at the clarity. It's kinda weird, but even with them at far less pixels than they were when you shot them you can actually see a noteworthy difference in sharpness between this and your "average camera".

I'm getting more excited about my D800. :)

I agree about the contrast. I really need a calibrated monitor. It looks nice and pop-y on my macbook. On my PC, not so much so. I'll look into fixing that.

It's saying quite alot when you can pull the clarity of these out even shooting through the 300/4 and Kenko 1.4x TC.

Again, thank you all.

is it just me, or does 12-1 and 12-2 have a sort of weird ghostly artifact just to the right of the ship for anybody else?

And stunningly great images. I think 13 was my favorite.

o_O

I see it as well. But only on my ipad. It doesn't show up on my macbook or PC screens.
