No, I was able to read and respond to his post. From what I gathered he wanted to change is username and was either ignored or denied. I don't know the entire story behind it, but it sucks either way.
bad business, if you ask me!
So now we cant post and say goodby to the forum? We cant voice any concerns publicly to ask other opinions? We now have to live in fear that any little word of dissent will be removed..obviously "someone" wants this forum to turn into a bland generic forum where people just post pics of their kids and flowers and everyone says how wonderful it is. When did this place appoint mr. Rodgers as a mod?

Yea but TPF isn't owned by anyone that cares about photography, so.....

tirediron said:You're right, different mods do moderate differently. Oddly enough, we're actually people too, and while TPF has a pretty clear set of guidelines for most situations, not all of us interpret a given post or issue identically. We do however do our best to ensure uniformity and unbiased moderating. Issues or concerns regarding any moderator or moderator's action, please contact the TPF Administrators.

1) Name changes are admin controlled features, moderators cannot change them. We also try to keep name changes on the site to a minimum to prevent confusion and some errors with the database/searching that can crop up. As a mod I can't say why Schwetty's name change was rejected.
2) We don't allow swansongs - a general "I'm off for the holidays see you in a few weeks" is fine - but swansong leaving threads are always removed from sight. This is a general policy akin to other hotbutton topics and is in place because threads like that general devolve fast into fights/rants/problems.
edit - further point - the thread is not deleted, but simply archived in a hidden section of the site. We generally keep deletion for spam (many deleted user comments are often only soft deleted, which leaves them viewable to the mods - this is to generally help ensure that we have the posts present to refer to should anyone contest a mods actions.
