Schwetty is leaving us? Why? I missed that one. Probably cuz it was deleted before I got on-line. I have GOT to quit sleeping. It's really cutting into my TPF time.

No, I was able to read and respond to his post. From what I gathered he wanted to change is username and was either ignored or denied. I don't know the entire story behind it, but it sucks either way.

he can just make a new account and use a proxy so the ip will be different. ;-)

When a long established member, who since joining has developed a successful photography business... wants to change his "username" to something more professional, and is denied.... something would appear to be wrong. I would think that hanging on to successful, knowledgeable members would be paramount... as that will help to draw more noobs to the forum, and thus more advertising dollars.

bad business, if you ask me!

So now we cant post and say goodby to the forum? We cant voice any concerns publicly to ask other opinions? We now have to live in fear that any little word of dissent will be removed..obviously "someone" wants this forum to turn into a bland generic forum where people just post pics of their kids and flowers and everyone says how wonderful it is. When did this place appoint mr. Rodgers as a mod?

hahahaha... Mr. Rodgers is not a comparison I would have used! (but I can't say who I would have used... I would probably get banned! ;) )

True but he would've lost all this likes and numerous posts; not too mention probably be treated as a noob from those who doesn't know it's really Schwetty 2.0.

You're right, different mods do moderate differently. Oddly enough, we're actually people too, and while TPF has a pretty clear set of guidelines for most situations, not all of us interpret a given post or issue identically. We do however do our best to ensure uniformity and unbiased moderating. Issues or concerns regarding any moderator or moderator's action, please contact the TPF Administrators.

Yeah, that's a great way to waste time. The TPF admins care about ad revenue and lurkers who click the links. Keith made it very clear that their priority is NOT registered members.

I think if you were to ask most of the regularly posting members, they'd tell you that the mods are most certainly not unbiased or uniformly enforcing the guidelines.

Maybe you can help me out here instead of towing the party line, John. What are the requirements for a mod to delete a thread or post? Are they clearly defined, or left to the whims of each individual mod?

Two key points:

1) Name changes are admin controlled features, moderators cannot change them. We also try to keep name changes on the site to a minimum to prevent confusion and some errors with the database/searching that can crop up. As a mod I can't say why Schwetty's name change was rejected.

2) We don't allow swansongs - a general "I'm off for the holidays see you in a few weeks" is fine - but swansong leaving threads are always removed from sight. This is a general policy akin to other hotbutton topics and is in place because threads like that general devolve fast into fights/rants/problems.

edit - further point - the thread is not deleted, but simply archived in a hidden section of the site. We generally keep deletion for spam (many deleted user comments are often only soft deleted, which leaves them viewable to the mods - this is to generally help ensure that we have the posts present to refer to should anyone contest a mods actions.

People complain too much :D

In a perfect world this site would be about photography and not personalities. ;)

I think it would help alleviate the situation if y'all ( the mods) would point to where it is typed up in the ToS or some other area where it says that swansongs are against the rules.

I think that would help to end the issue.

Otherwise, I have a bad feeling that your words will be taken with a grain of salt, helping no one. :(
